RockPlayer Divx App for Android enters Public Beta

RockPlayerRockPlayer, the excellent Android media player app that leaked across the internet last week, has moved into public beta stage. We gave RockPlayer a video hands-on although knew that it was from a leaked private beta. They guys behind the app got in touch to let us know that the public beta release (0.2.8_Beta_v6_vfp) is now available to download for all.

We have a few more official details too. RockPlayer currently supports a number of different media formats including avi, mkv, rmvb, flv, mp4, 3gp, wmv, mov, asf, divx, xvid, h.264 and rv40. It will also work on any Android handset running v1.6 to 2.2. Before you install the new public beta, make sure you uninstall the previous version. This beta is due to expire on 15 July 2010 so get downloading!

Update: Check out our video hands-on of this new release after the jump. The video goes through the main differences over the last version.

Thanks wonder!

  1. Do I have to upgrade? Is there any significant differences from the previous version that was on this site?

  2. When I click the download link, it shows “You cannot view this page because this group has exceeded its bandwidth quota.” Would you please fix it ? Thanks !!!!!

  3. @Jesse – Connect your phone to your laptop/PC via USB. Then go to the notification bar and mount the USB. You should then be able to drag and drop the file from your laptop to X10.

Make sure you have a file manager installed from the Android Market (I use Astro) and also make sure Settings –> Applications –> Unknown Sources is ticked.

Then go to Astro, navigate to the directory where you installed the file and tap it to install the apk.

  4. Thanks for your video on youtube and suggest.
RockPlayer will show the video information in playback panel ,and more slinky.

  5. I’ve read the instructions, downloaded Astro, copied the files to the device but can’t seem to find the file through Astro in order to install it. What am I doing wrong?

  6. It’s out of beta, officially available on the Market: market://search?q=pname:org.freecoder.android.cmplayer.v7

  7. Hi,

  8. Im using HTC magic. I tried to install rockplayer ARMv6 by Linda file browser, it mentioned, Rockplayer could not install on this phone. Anyone got this msg? Thanks.

  9. I installed the app, launched it, and it just redirects me to the rockplayer’s website via browser, and thats it! no app! What am I doing wrong?

  10. I have the same problem as Ian above. Clicking directly on the app logo opens the RockPlayer “About” page. Pretty useless. I tried opening .avi files directly from Astro to see if that would somehow work, but no luck. I’ve installed other .apk apps with no troubles so this one is confusing. What else do we have to do to make it work?

  11. Just re-read through these comments and realized it’s now available in the Market! Duh.
I downloaded v7 and it works flawlessly. Even the ads are small and unobtrusive, and invisible while watching whatever you’re watching. Now I can watch Six Feet Under on my x10, heh =) Thanks for the awesome app!
