Sony Ericsson releases Happiness Android app for Xperia users

Sony Ericsson releases Happiness Android app Sony Ericsson has exclusively released a new Android app for the Xperia family called ‘Happiness’ in the UK. The app relates to various deals, bargains and special offers that can be shared with your mates. Some of the offers include a 25% discount on shoes, 2-for-1 pamper treatments and a free milkshake. They are marketing it quite heavily, I noticed a full one-page advert in this morning’s London Metro newspaper.

Strange name for an app, maybe SE is trying to turn away some of the negative karma surrounding the Android 2.1 delay for Xperia handsets. After all its tagline is “Everything to make you smile”. You can download the app by scanning the QR code below.

  3. What make me happy is updated software!! in reasonable time, i bought this phone because it was android, not because it was a sony, sony should cater to there android users, most likely people comfortable with technology and people that want the update!!

  7. happiness would be 2.1 earlier than they said the delay would be well its gonne be 3-4 weeks and counting til the supposed update to arrive, or if ur an 02-uk customer 2 months (knowing 02’s hesitation to release an update)

  19. This app is just a waste of space. Im an Indian and the only thing that’ll make me happy is to see updates throughout the life of the X10 which is what SE promised initially.

  29. Firstly Japan released the ambienttime, i installed it immediately. It did not made me happy instead it reminds me SE still delaying the update. Now, UK released happy app only for UK.. hmm.. i chose SE over motorola was because I’m a fan of SE.. I hope these guys are doing sensible work in the update.

  31. SE, if you want to make us happy, just give your upcoming Xperia X12 (with 2.2) to all disapoointed X10 users FOC. AS we knew that you will keep delay the release of 2.1 update, and after you release X12, you won’t develop update for X10 as you think people will switch to X12.
    But you forgot most of us already switch to Iphone 4, Galaxy S, Desire HD etc, wow, i just received my new Iphone 4 32GB, and about to let go my X10

    And they’ll be just as pissed off with the X12 as they are with the X10 because like all recent SE’s releases (X1, X10, Satio etc) it will be half-baked, bug ridden, and dropped around 6 months after release in favour of their next bug ridden beast….

  41. The web’s general consensus is that very very powerful Android phones will be coming out next year. Ones carrying 1.5ghz processors and maybe even dual cores, running Android Gingerbread or even Honeycomb (even though I heard Honeycomb might be a tablet special version). My personal take is, why drop xperia now and get a different phone now when much powerful alternatives will be coming out soon? Xperia can still make calls and do the basics, plus the long overdue 2.1 update will give me something to play with for a week or two.

    I’d save money right now and wait till next year’s super androids come out before dropping my xperia and shelling out my hard earned money for a new Android. I personally would like to see what HTC can do with a 1.5+ghz dual core processor and android gingerbread.

    Back to the X10 though, I would be happy if it just did what it is meant to do….PROPERLY. I am on my third handset in three months and the one I have now still doesn’t work properly. STUPID DODGY HANDSETS!!!!

    How fortunate for you that you have a life, or that you’re rich or whatever. However, I had to work in the heat of summer, running with the wheelbarrow, so that I could come up with $600 cash to pay for a brand new X10, all based on false promises and outright lies.

    If Sony didn’t talk bullshit from the beginning, hyping up updates and promising features, then I would have absolutely no problem with Sony Ericsson. Then they’d have the right to delay updates as much as they wanted, because they didn’t make promises, hell, they might have as well locked the phone at 1.6. and I wouldn’t complain. But they deliberately misled people like me into purchasing a X10. Had they been honest, I’d have an iPhone or HTC, and since I keep phones for at least 3 years, the software side is extremely important to me. Hence I feel cheated and I’ll rant against Sony when I can.

    sure X12 sounds wonderful! (as x10 6 months ago) but i’m also sure that it will lack some “basic” features!!! like lagging! problems with sound, or even multi-touch!!! (afraid of apple’s lawsuit)

    and lets just imagen that it will come out without any problem, other companies will be offering better deals at that time!! like hot chocolate fudge android or much tastier version!
    SE is always late! never gonna trust them again.

    if you are happy with your phone i suggest you go back to your cave and enjoy your phone and let the people express their feelings.

    if you are working for SE then instead of flaming unsatisfied costumers head back to your cubical and do some “useful” software developing which is what we really need!

  53. If they clean up the AmbientTime home screen and made it better, i could still overlook the fact that 2.1 is going to be late….. but to publish 2 half ass apps as an excuse for 2.1 to be late is unforgivable…. they should devote the programming hours to pushing 2.1 hard…

    People have the god given right to express emotions and feelings in here…hence the reason the admins and mods dont delete posts.
    X10 users are pissed of for a reason…we were all sold this phone on the back of a lie.

    As i’ve explained in previous posts…I couldnt give a rats arse about 2.1, I just want the bugs the X10 carries fixed and believe me there is a long list.
    Fix the bugs then release a bugfree stable O.S.

    The X10 is a good phone and I still recon it has the potential to be a great phone if S.E would open the boot….anyway, thats not going to happen but until the flagship of S.E handsets is fixed im gonna be right here moaning with the rest of the betrayed users.

    I downloaded this happiness app and seriously what the fuck does a 34yr old Scottish bloke want half price nail shit for? Thats all the app offers lol.

  60. i dont seem to be able to stream, is this normal for such a good phone, so everybody kept telling me, however im starting to feel duped now, only got this yesterday, but if i cant get this flash player im after on this phone, im going in for the htc desire, makes me mad that ive been lied to, they say in books n alsorts the features are posted all over adverts n write ups in the phone shops mags, this is a streaming abled phone, so why does it also say i cant watch or stream anything coz i need a flash player?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? can anyone help, guy at shop said to go online n download the adobe 10.1 for mobiles and drag this download to media go to upload on phone, this isnt working either, ive been done over havent i??

    @angryman. as a SE phone its good, but that is not how it was sold, it was sold as a premium android phone and they didnt tell people what it wouldnt be able to do even though some of the snoy boards were full of people asking. when it launched and SE admitted some of the things it couldnt (but still said they were working on something that would be a multitouch replacement thast they then seem to forget they said they were working on) the SE blog lit up with complaints… the result, they ditched the entire blog

  62. Well folks, here it is. SE has cut short on its commitments to clients and to the future development of its own technology (Xperia Extend).

    Here is the update on the potential SE lawsuit I wanted to bring to life in Canada.
    We currently have ground to sue SE based on the two following and yet simple points.

    Xperia X10 was sold with the promise of regular firmware updates and the assurance that Xperia would evolve alongside Android OS (which is why we bought those bloody devices). This is considered as a contract with the clients and the providers/distributors of the said phones.

    Since this will not happen and is therefore contrary to what we were assured by the company, SE is in ”breach” of contract with clients and distributors.

    But the real point that could enable us to win in Canada is the following. Buying SE Xperia X10 will cause substantial losses to all of their owners (who will have to break their current contracts with carriers and assume the related fees, buy a new phone and finally get a new contract with same/different carriers). For some of us, the total amount in question can reach 1015$ (in my case:I have a 2 years contract with Rogers, so I have to pay remaining balance on my phone 315.00$CA, cancellation fees 400.00$CA, buying a new phone 200.00$CA and lastly new contract and related fees 100.00+, for a big total of over 1000.00$CA). It is easy to prove that those losses are intricately tied to buying Xperia X10, and they would not have occurred had we bought another device. Since our phones are a business tool and we will not be able to use it as needed and as promised, despite what SE advertised and assured, we have ground for a serious lawsuit.

    But to win this in court, we need to make it a collective case against SE, therefore proving without a doubt that we all suffer the same consequences due to misinformation and false promises made by SE.

    It is considered illegal in Canada to make false advertisement, and based on those two facts alone, we have serious grounds, but we need to stand together to win this and force SE to assume its responsabilities towards its clients.

    – Dell Streak
    – Iphone 3GS
    – Iphone 3G
    – Xperia X10
    But I gave my xperia to my nephew it’s good but could have been better if updated, iphones just for display, like my dell streak much waiting for 2.2 atm. and i am waiting for the samsung tablet next month

  65. My x10’s mainboard died and was deemed unrepairable, which makes me HAPPY. Since it was still under warranty when it carked it, I have the option of either accepting another x10 as replacement or credits at current cost price to redeem against another phone. I’ll lose about $130 on price depreciation but it’s a better outcome than trying to sell it secondhand (if it hadn’t broke).

    Froyo, here I come.

    SE can shove their promise of regular firmware updates up their collective arses and smoke it. I’ll never buy another SE phone ever again.

  66. Major let down from SE again… App. cannot be found on market on my X10 mini in The Netherlands! Soooooo… I’m expecting SE will give us a X10 HD for free to compensate their promises!!!
