SE confirms latest Xperia X10 update is the big UXP update

Sony EricssonSony Ericsson’s Rikard Skogberg has confirmed over at the SE Product Blog that the latest firmware update for the Xperia X10 (2.1.A.0.435) is indeed the big fabled UXP update that was due to hit the handset during Q1. At the time, this update was said to bring improvements to Timescape and Mediascape and it seems as if this is true (at least for the latter).

A comment from a member asked Rikard whether “this was the big UXP update we have been waiting on?” To which Rikard replied, “Yes the update that is starting to roll-out now is the one described in earlier comments here, I’m finalizing the details on a post around it.” There you have it, this means that this 2.1.A.0.435 firmware should indeed be hitting X10i handsets shortly.

  3. No idea about DLNA as we haven’t downloaded the new firmware yet. No one has reported about DLNA functionality being included, although this could be that they haven’t looked for it…

  8. Well the X10 has reached EOL and this will be as good as it gets. It was good while it lasted. I shall use my X10 for as long as I can. Overall I am pleased with the phone. I just want the ability to tweet from the phone (im not talking timescape or phonebook) and that DLNA tech that is hidden somewhere inside.

    and i happy with XDA developer guys..they are working hard also they got success in 2.2 custom rom…they made semi stable 2.2 froyo rom…

  12. As I said in the other article comments, just updated my UK network free mini pro. Lost root but got it back with superoneclick. Can’t see any improvements at all yet. If anything is is slightly slower.

    as Louis CK says: ”fuck this piece of shit phone (that magically lets us talk to anyone anywhere in the world and gives us the sum of human knowledge at our finger tips)”.

    if anyone seriously complains about not having froyo or multi touch etc then they need some serious perspective. At least I have a warm bed to sleep in and a full stomach.

  14. I have this update on my handset now.

    Mediascape has changed a lot (Lots of new options but all useless to be honest). Now as soon as you put two fingers on the screen in Mediascape image gallery, it detects Pinch zoom.

    Timescape is exactly the same with the addition of Moxier main.

    Other than that, the updates adds full Arabic/Persian support.

    Nothing else I see.

WHERE is the DLNA? and… last, but not least… HOW the fuck … do you have a DEV TEAM working? what kind of DEV team is that? you hired JANITORS, or something? the DUALTOUCH sucks, not because of its functionality, but because of the STUPID AXIS PROBLEM. WE all know this is a god damn trick. AXIS works just fine. NOW u wrote a fucking code, and when the fingers intersect the X/Y axis, it all goes nuts(left goes to right and vice-versa). EVEN HUAWEI has BETTER phones than yours. THEY ALREADY HAVE GINGERBREAD + MULTITOUCH(not DT) + other functions, and their phones are half, if not one quarter the price we paid on this worthless piece of CRAP.

They just cover shit up with “2.1 is far better than any vanilla 2.2” O, rly? with all ur timescape + mediascape crap ? This phone is FULL of unnecessary apps… like Moxier, timescape, mediscape(i know we can remove them), but other companies have NO preinstalled apps. Iphone has 512 mb of ram, we have 380 or so, and we could use only 200, from which 30-40 are used by THEIR stupid and worthless apps. ALL IN ALL, they deliver “UXP” update, like anyone would need an update on apps like mediascape(poweramp is 10 times better + that it has an eq), or timescape (why not use facebook app + other shitty socialising apps? i don’t even use socialising sites.) . THIS is just too much. THEY ARE MOCKING US. we don’t need 2.1, 2.2 or UXP upgrades anymore.
    2.3 or bootloader. this is what we want. our phone is 2009ish, already… SRY FOR this 2 posts. i`m pissed. it’s outrageous.

    i know that. it’s just too much, for me. i can’t take it anymore. they need to release the bootloader or something, because the AOSP gingerbread works on 2.1 kernel. this slows devs down to the point where we’ll have to use apps to use OUR phones. i just want everything to be alright. and i want to use my phone, not stay untill SE would finally release the bootloader or something, because they won’t do that.

    no, man.. don’t u see? x10 has SCREEN problems, has FORCED multitouch and it doesn’t have HDMI connector(at least that’s how a SE employee would trick you) . Well, x10 is(was, actually) just a marketing tool. x10=arc – hdmi – 32 gb card(they sold it just with an 8 gb micro sd card) – (?) .

    Yes, SE provides great mobilephones with great hardware specs. but these phones will have their SW outdated one day or another (look @ x10 family). IMO, x10>Iphone 4 not only because of android, but because of hardware specs too.

  47. Why are people moaning about Moxier? It’s a superb app. You should pay for it really but it’s bundled. And it keeps all my work stuff completely seperate from personal but can sync if you want..

    for those in the Arab world, finally Arabic language is included. The sad thing though no Android Market, they put Slide Me SAM and its made for Sony Ericsson!!! don’t know if google told them not to include market or the phone can not support market???? thank god for applanet

  51. @Larry – Buy your phone unlocked and you wont have the issue with getting the latest updates when they are made available. I don’t think AT&T will update the device from 1.6.

  52. My x10a was 99 bucks with the account from AT&T. I’ve tried every “root” there is out there, nothing seems to root AT&T x10a. Everyone says “try this root, it works…” not on an AT&T X10a…

  59. @Aj, I had beta 3 for about a month and used to score Quadrant around 1.5-1.7 (on top of the list) and Linpack about 34.500-35.100 as maximum. very smooth..Just went back to SE 2.1 and get ‘7’ on linpack, takes ages…

  68. I just updated my x10i thru FLASHTOOL using xda medthod. Model Name changed to X10a. Did not try to test it yet. I’ll go back to x10i anytime SE release the update.

    Root your phone here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906248. Download and use the latest version. If not, try the other.

    After Rooting, download the Flashtool here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10738467. Then download the latest FW with UXP and DT update here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6514692&postcount=2

    After downloading the 2 files. Extract the content of the latest FW.
    Run the Flashtool.
    Navigate to “firmware” folder.
    Copy and paste the extracted FW to the “firmware folder”.
    Run or double click the X10FLASHtool.
    Click connect and choose x10.
    It will prompt you to connect your phones to PC by Flashmode (off mode connecting while pressing the back key).
    Continue to hold the back key until flashtool tells you that your phone is connected.
    If connected, click the flash key and wait to finish.

    You’ll have the new FW in no time.

  71. I want my 2.2! (and 2.3 and whatever will float on this device….) I think the Arc looks great…but I’m in a contract situation you see….and so I’d like to get the most of this device. My Timescape/Mediascpape bundled 2.1 keeps getting bogged down…:Look, SE I love my phone…just give us the software key. We paid the big yen (or dollars, or euros, or whatever) and we feel hurt that you won’t give us the best that your engineers are capable of. Tell you what…just between you and me….if this is an Arc competion thing….why not just leave the bootloader out in the street one night…no questions asked…let it fall off the back of a truck….we’ll take the rest from there….No one has to get hurt. Hard to show off my cool phone when I try to show someone some pics…and we wait and wait for the Gallery app to open…then we wait for the images to populate…then wait for the scroll….my iPhone friends tap and app and are lazily flipping through awesome pics in smooth seamless transition….I try to take a photo and I sit and wait for eons for the camera to start. Take one photo and wait another eon until I can take the next pic. Even waiting for the dialer recently…this is a really poor showing. I think I’ll go back to my flip phone. At least that was responsive..push a button, instant gratification…Argh….I look like a Mac vs. Windows goon. Come on. It doesn’t have to be this way. SE…listen to the plea. Please.

    Im in Abu Dhabi. I did not wait for the SE update. I updated my device thru FLASHTOOL using XDA method. It works fine. UI seems to be a little smoother than the previous FW. No time yet to do full testing since Im at work. I’ll do the “roadtest” later on.

  77. Right this is strange, as I said above, the hiden menu shows me to be on 1227-4612, but Quadrant system info show me as beeing on 1232-9897.

    How can I be on both? lol
    This is confusing now 😛
    Maybe ill just download a fresh global generic firmware from the net and flash that way to be sure I have the right one.

    Hmm… How about less is more? Eliminate the apps that slow down the phone (Timescape/Meidascape), let Google update the O/S, and let SE make money with new phones. I’m all for SE making money. I gave them my vote of confidence by giving SE a lot of my own cash. If SE won’t update the phone, that is fine with me…as long as they let the developers in! (through offering the bootloader). The phone is just hardware. This is a new paradigm and software updates are part of that paradigm. If the Arc is better, there should be no qualms from SE about giving the “old” X10 a new lease on life. What say you?

    In service menu, under software info dont look at the numbers under phone software or file system or nething else. The number u r looking for is under Customization version on the software info page. There u will c 1232-9897 which is global version. N no u dont have 2 different versions, the other no.s indicate the kit compiled for the Generic Global software. Don’t worry, u don’t need to flash to global again, wait until they release it or simply flash it to the latest version instead if u r going to flash ur fone neway and end ur wait ;-).
    Hope this helps.

    No need to manually intall it. You can debrand ur phone to other FW. Its fast and easy using FLASHTOOL. I debranded also some of my friend’s phone to have android market and it is working well. Before I was using the Nordic FW. After I came to know this update, waited for XDA to extract the newest GLOBAL FW. Check their site and Viola! I started flashing my phone and it work fine.

    There is another, easier way, but it costs $10. It is what I did, because I wasn’t sure about the firmware xda was using during the update fiasco in November. Go to http://WWW.FASTGSM.COM. It is very easy to do. I used the regional generic X10a Brazil 1234 – 4836 firmware. It has google Voice Search included. However, most of the stuff on xda revolves around the global/world generic X10a 1234 – 4820, which I am now using. If they now have global/world generic X10a use it. It may not be this new update version, but when you are done at fastGSM.com, you can then update via SEUS. Then use super one click root method on xda to root.

  89. Hey, When will this update hit the U.S. AT&T Xperia x10s? I’m still in the stock 1.6 (mostly because of the AT&T Death Hold on it). And this dual touch, faster cpu, longer battery, 5 screen, hd video update looks really good right now. I use the x10a in the U.S.

    no one in the right minds will buy the arc, its clearly out of date already. you get the feeling SE know at the mobile conference the rest will produce far better phones to show off so they didnt want to show their phone off and get no goodf publicity at all.

    my x10 has been fine. but i didnt pay for a “fine” phone, i paid for “the ultimate android phone” as SE still brand it. it hasnt been that since the day after it was first announced. i feel so cheated.

  92. I’ve got the update (Saudi Arabia) last night. It’s getting even more and more faster particularly the Timescape and Mediascape. The one-finger zoom is quite nice in Mediascape and the pinch to zoom in the internet browser is wonderful. I was only a bit disappointed why the animination opening the Mediascape (music / video / photo) is gone. I love the animation before. One thing I cannot update is the PlayNow (Get Music Info). After downloading to 13 music update (275 in total), it stuck there and nothing happend. Anybody got this problem updating the PlayNow?

  95. Got the update today, Nordic unbranded X10. Moxier even better and Mediascape seems more responsive. Pinch zoom in Opera Mobile, love it!!

I have…1234-8465…X10i, in india and i got the update before yesterday. dual touch is working, better image resolution while calling contacts with image which was poor after initial 2.1 update, Animation in mediascape is removed and is faster than earlier update, however dual touch seems buggy while trying over any playing video or viewing images. overall happy with the update

    This is really what I really wanted Sonyericsson to fix because volume is truly crap. In fact, I’ve got only 3 wishes to SE (in particular order) for X10 if they will not give us 2.2 Froyo (available at XDA Developers though):
    1. Volume (all users around the world are really complaining)
    2. 16M colors (since hardware is capable to make Timescape “spline” more readable)
    3. Equalizer (I don’t like to use third-party app as built-in is far better)

  116. It’s horrible! Why SE has removed the animation in Mediascape and now it looks very ordinary UI. Instead SE is giving us more beautiful UI through firmware updates, they are removing those nice eye-candy features on UI everytime they issue a new firmware update. Those original UI of X10 makes this unit beautiful and unique but look what they did. I’m afraid next firmware update the animation in Timescape is also gone, it’s B.S. SE should return back the animation in Mediascape. What blog we can post all our complains to SE?

  154. I wanted to let people from Canada (Ontario at least, on rogers network) know that there is now a ‘new software update’ through the PC companion software today 🙂
    I have to say that mediascape is a quite welcome change after playing with my phone for 5 mins– the lack of animations dont bug me. FINALLY I CAN MAKE SOME PLAYLISTS ON THE GO. I just dont like the album art going over the playing controls :/
    Theres also some new apps called postcard and neoreader. Dualtouch works well on the browser, but the keyboard has only really changed its color scheme (grey, more like htc) :/

  155. Oh, and some more details on the mediascape:
    theres a really cool one finger fast forward/rewind option (when playing music), the one finger zoom in mediascape is nice too (though no multitouch implementations there, sorry), horizontal mode is implemented everywhere now too.
    Seems slightly faster, but nothing too extraordinary. 😛

  159. Try finding the setting in pc companion that searches for an update when your phone is plugged in. Make sure you press mount or usb connected when you plug your phone into the computer. If that doesnt work, simply reinstall the pc companion so you make sure its up to date. I hope that helps! 🙂

  160. I dcided I was tired of waiting for the update. I m on the orange network in the uk. yesterday I rooted and flshed my phone with the latest dual touch firmware and installed jit. I also deleted some of the useless apps like office. now my phone runs super fast! and has dual touch. well done xda, you should be working at SE getting paid instead of those chumps there now.

  169. Whenever I try to update from my phone, I get a message saying: New software available. Not enough memory, restart you phone before downloading.

    I’ve restarted my phone numerous times and have made sure i have enough space for the download etc. but this message still persists. Also, when trying to update via pc companion, it says im running the latest software. I’m wondering if anyone else has come by this message or not – im running nordic 2.1 x10i but have flashed from a rogers x10a

  171. You know what I noticed.. after the update.. When I send a picture message, or someone sends me a picture message. If I wanna view the picture, it asks me to complete action using Mediascape or other photoviewer apps. If I open it with mediascape, nothing happens.. before that update.. I can view picture message using mediascape now it doesn’t work anymore.. i don’t know if my phone has a problem or is it the same as everyone?

  173. Soon as my contracts up, I’m moving to HTC or Samsung. I’ve had loadsa issues with my handset and I don’t really think there’s an awful lot goin for it apart from it lookin kinda nice and the camera (although most phones have mad high spec cams now anyway) and the one thing that’s making me not jus throw it as faar away from me as I can, is the immense sat nav system, which to be fair is the best sat nav I’ve used, but that’s also probly avail for other phones (Google Navigate), which has slowed down somewhat since the update actually :/. The last update came and the pinch zoom, attempt at matchin Apple was a massive fail, barely works. The screen is already really quite poor for a modern touchscreen as it’s too sensitive for general use, then not sensitive enough when you need it to be for stuff like games etc. The addition to make playlists was like a God send, but then almost all other phones with mp3 I’d had prior, had playlist making as standard, so another poor move by SE. To me, the Xperia 10 was kinda like Windows ME……..it’s shit and pointless, but its paved the way for the newer Xperia range, which hopefully are more stable builds and don’t force close the shit out of everythin for giggles. It’s a bit of a joke when ur phone repeatedly force closes the MESSAGING function. Lol. Also, a number of u guys here complained about ‘useless apps’, which I completely agree with, ALL the Moxier stuff is durge and I find it quite annoying that it’s difficult if not impossible to get rid of (haven’t really been that bothered to look).

    @mahdi if you haven’t already, I recommend not buying, getting on contract or even considering the X10, it’s dog poo. Maybs the new Xperia lines are winners, but this one certainly isn’t. I recommend HTC, Samsung, or even a BB, they’re fairly reliable as far as a phone goes these days.

  174. @mahdi also dude, it probs will come with 2.1 on by now, if not, it’s fairly easy to update, so you shud be fine. 🙂 But like I said, I strongly recommend somethin else, it’s not a good phone.
