32GB SD Card

Postby rpedroso » Wed Sep 08, 2010 4:13 pm

Has anyone used a 32GB SD Card in the X10a. If so does it work and can you provide the details on the card so I can purchase one.

It's not compatible with android 1.6, up to a max of 16gb with Donut. 32gb cards will be compatible with eclair (2.1) though when it's released.

Kingston also make quality sdcard, they are also known to under rate their cards rather than over rate then like other companies; including Sandisk.
Most companies rate their cards on read speed rather than write speed and read speed is obviously faster hence an inaccurate class.
My 16gb Kingston sdcard is a Class 4 but Class read/write tests rate it at a Class 6, worth a little extra IMO.
Transcend are also another good brand, I have Transcend RAM in my Compaq laptop, very good quality!

I'll have a stab at that question :geek:
There are files pre-installed on your original card that are required. For example: The first time you connect your X10 to a pc, options available include charge, mount card and install pc companion. Install pc companion is a tiny virtual cd rom on the card and is probably named autorun if I remember correctly. There are probably a number of files you will need to copy from your original card or download from somewhere to make it work properly. There could possibly even be a way to install those files from the phone, but that sounds too easy to be true and I honestly have no clue. XDA :ugeek: would be a better place to get a clear answer &/or instructions. Please post solution as I will be interested in doing this around the time official 2.3.3 is finally released.

Format the sd card in the phone, Settings> SD card & phone storage> Unmount SD card> Format SD card.
Warning- Doing this WILL erase all data from your SD card, back any important data before Formatting.

Then Google and install "Mini Partition Tool" into your PC and use this to format your SD card, if this doesn't work then I would say you need to consider you have a faulty, poor quality or fake SD card.

EDIT- With the tool you need to format the SD card Primary fat32.
