Editing Contacts in Phonebook

When I try and edit contacts in phonebook, it takes me to the work email contact and tells me that this contact cannot be found in the Work Email contact list.
I should be able to edit the contact in phonebook instead of workemail contact.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
What can I do?
