Disable Home Button Wake

Postby JayJ » Thu Dec 02, 2010 12:54 pm

OK so I could post this in the X10 Tips & Tricks but I figure it's a good hack, I want others to know about it and it could be missed by some in there. If a mod decides this thread isn't necessary then please delete this paragraph and include this post in the Tips & Tricks or if this has been covered before please delete. Thanks.

My X10's battery performance is terrible, okay so I've learnt to live with it but I know my X10 has it's own life whilst in my pocket and I found a way to stop it. This hack disables the Home button as a wake button on the X10i and stops the phone waking in your pocket, you can have other keys to wake the phone but for me the power key is all I need. This hack/mod may not be for everyone but suits me down to the ground and here's a how to.

First you need to have a rooted phone and Root Explorer installed, now open Root Explorer and select the "system" folder. Now select "usr" and then "keylayout", the file you are looking to edit is "es209ra_keypad.kl" so long press this file and choose "Open in text editor".

Now scroll down until you find:-

"key 102 HOME WAKE_DROPPED"

All you need to do is remove/delete the "WAKE_DROPPED" part from the line and press menu and save the file. It will make a back up copy on your sd card incase you change your mind later, now come out of Root Explorer and Reboot or switch your phone off, then back on again and the phone shouldn't wake with the Home button but just the Power button.

I think this hack/mod is brilliant and really useful but may take some time to get use to, I still keep pressing Home to wake my phone but I'm sure I'll get use to it soon.

I cannot take credit for this hack as I found it on XDA Developers Forum but I like it so much and believe it to help stop the X10 waking in peoples pockets I wanted to share it with you guys, the thread was started by "prewed" on XDA Developers Forum and here is the link to that thread.

PLEASE NOTE- YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, I CAN NOT AND WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR PHONE. IF THIS IS DONE CORRECTLY THEN THERE IS NO REASON WHY IT SHOULD DAMAGE YOUR PHONE, ONCE I HAD SORTED OUT WHAT I NEEDED TO DO I DID THIS FIRST TIME.

I hope somebody finds this as useful as I did, enjoy.

Thanks Prathaban, just thought it was a useful hack with the X10's battery problems and once I knew it worked properly I wanted to share it.

I used this little hack until now, and it worked perfectly. Thanks! JayJ :D
I've using Linux over 6 years by now, but I never image before that I could have its power on my hand. Android made that possible.
