X10 random reboots, not working at all atm

Postby Sinner » Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:18 pm

Hi guys,

New to the forum but already found a little bit of help during my time reading some topics so far.
Ill explain my problems:

Ive had my x10 for almost a year now, was working great the first couple months but then it just started to reboot randomly, mostly when i was looking stuff up on the internet but also sometimes when it was just idle and i would wake up in the middle of the night cause of the light it gives when rebooting. Ive also had the reboot-loops where it just kept on restarted forever until i removed the battery.
Checked alot of forums to see if people had the same problem and in the end brought it back to the Vodafone store to see if they could find anything. Seems here in the Netherlands they ship all there repairs to another company and of course they found nothing and just replaced my firmware with a "better" one. All went well the first 5 minutes but yet again it started rebooting, i didn't have time to go back straight away and didn't feel like giving my phone back to Vodafone for another 2 months just to find out they only replace the firmware. Next couple months i just tried to avoid going on the net to search for things and it went ok, "only" around 20 reboots a day...
Couple days ago i plugged in my phone during the night to charge while i was sleeping, i woke up and found out my phone had been switched off. I tried to start it up again but it seems my battery was still low, the red light was still blinking. Had to go to work so i plugged it in again and went to work. When coming back it still didnt charge and from that moment on i just cant charge or get it to turn on anymore.
I did replace the battery with another one and that works just fine so to me it looks like a battery problem but seeing that i have had alot of problems before with the phone i just wanna ask for some advice first, or see if more people have had problems like this.
I also asked Vodafone for a replacement if this one couldn't be fixed anymore, and they will do that but only if the company they give there repairs too finds the same problem and i have to send it in at a minimum of 3 times. Seeing as it took 2 months the last time and reading reviews of the company that fixes it isn't giving me hope they will be any faster next time, that's a minimum of 6 months ill be without a phone i paid for.
I envy the people who had sorta the same problems and there phone was just replaced without any problems.

Ive tried using different adapters, different batteries, updates for firmware, updates for the phone itself, resetting back to factory defaults.
The sim works fine in another phone so thats not the problem, removing the sd card still gives problems so that also works fine. Change of batteries fixes the not turning on part, but the random reboots still happen alot.

I'm open to all suggestions cause its starting to bug me alot, it wasn't a cheap phone a year ago and i paid good money for it but if i cant even use it to its full potential i really doubt my next phone will be a SE.
Needless to say, this will be my last contract with Vodafone for sure since there support is just ridiculous.

Sorry for the long post but i tried my best to explain my problems, hopefully someone here has had the same thing and can recommend some fixes or some tips.

Thanks for reading.

I had a similar problem with my X10 randomly rebooting, even in the middle of phone calls. Also my GPS would not keep a signal for longer than 5 minutes.

It started just once a week and slowly increases until the phone is unusable, at its worst for me it was around 4-5 times a day. It is a known (but not acknowledged by SE) problem with early hardware versions of the X10. See the following forum thread on the Sony Ericsson forum - http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/81992

I called 3 (UK) and they took some details and sent me jiffy bag to post phone away, about a week later I get the phone back with a note advising that no fault was found and they have reinstalled the software. So after using the phone for 5 minutes the phone reboots, so I call them back, send phone off, comes back a week later with no fault found. Guess what, after about 30 mins of setting the phone back up...reboots.

So I go into my local 3 store and ask about a replacement, apparently they don't do replacements and need to send phone back off. I tried to demonstrate the problem to the guy in the 3 store but sods law, after 10 mins of playing with phone it didn't reboot. He said he would report it as an 'intermittent' fault and advised it was probably logged as 'constant' fault previously. He advised if it's logged as 'constant' they will literally just turn phone on, check can access internet, make calls, receive txts and then say there is nothing wrong. Logged as 'intermittant' means they will leave it running for a couple of days and test it more extensively.

So, few days later I receive a call advising a fault has been found (so what happened the previous 2 times i sent it off?) and that I would be supplied with a 'reconditioned' phone. At this stage I just wanted a phone which worked so was happy enough with this. Once I got the phone I checked the IMEI which was different to the one I sent off, which was a relief. I have been using this phone now for a couple of months without any reboots (well, there was a dodgy app I downloaded which froze the phone completely). It's such a relief to have a phone which works as it should, at one stage I thought I would end up stuck with a brick.

It did take about 2 weeks for me to get phone repaired with store but I didn't mind once I got a working phone back. I'd suggest you try and show the problem to a assistant in store, take his name and then if the phone does come back without being fixed you have a Vodafone employee as a witness to the problem. Also mention that it is an 'intermittant' issue (even if it happens constantly) as they will then carry out more extensive testing.

Another thing - try contacting Sony Ericsson support. I did fire an email towards them after the phone had come back twice and they said I could send the phone in to them but I never did because it was easier to take the phone to store.

I hope this is of some help to you and I hope you get the problem sorted.
