Offline GPS

Postby black_tiger2610 » Fri May 07, 2010 2:00 am

Is there anyway to get offline maps on the Xperia X10 like Nokia Maps. Is it possible to cache Google maps or any other service for offline use?

There's a new app called MapDroyd which allows you to download maps on your SD card. It's quite good. It's new. Only problem is that it does not have a search option (so you can't find addresses by searching), nor does it allow navigation. Basically, all it does is store maps on your card.

Other than that, you'll just have to fork out for a paid app, or wait till something else get released.

Sorry I cannot be of more help. :|

Yeh I had that app in the beginning, it was good but the quality was kinda so-so. Then again it is free

Yep, CoPilot is the main off-line navigation software I know of for Android. It supports North American maps too!

Hi Newbie Here :)
I have just downloaded the CoPilot 8 Live to my laptop and wondered how to get it on my X10i please? I have only just got the phone and I am not up to speed with the OS yet. I have had only Nokia phones for the last 20 years so it is a learning curve using the Android OS for me. I am not very teccy minded so please explain in easy to understand instructions.
Thank you in advance.

Download the BARCODE SCANNER from the market and scan the pic below :)
then the phone will download CoPilot 8 to your phone, just install and download maps trough WiFi and then navigate :)

Hi zleepy :) thank you for the reply.

I have done as you said and it is working but only online for me?? Also the map is not up to date as the new bypass near where I live is not showing on it. The UK & Ireland package I purchased from Co-Pilot should, or so I thought be up to date and show the new roads around the UK & Ireland, maybe it is their latest map, I am not too sure. If not then why do they charge for new maps when we can obviously get them for free. I have an unlocking key and thought I might be able to use it on the one scanned but there is no option listed for it, or not one that I can see, unless anyone knows different??

The map in my TomTom is showing the new bypass so therefore, must be more up to date, you would think that the guys at Co-Pilot would be getting their maps from the same source so why are they not as up to date!! Anyway, I just thought that the purchased package would bring me the newest maps, I hope I haven't wasted just under £30 :x I have dowloaded the purchased program as a zip file to my desktop on my laptop and tried extracting it directly to the SD card in and out of my phone, connected via usb and my laptops card reader, I have also extracted it to my desktop and dragged and dropped it both ways, via usb and card reader with no joy. I am definitley doing something wrong. The files are showing as on the card but the program is not showing in the list with the other programs on my phone. I did mount and un mount the card as prompted. It is probably something really easy and is looking me straight in the face but I am not getting it. I think I must be blinkered as I have been dealing with Nokias and there OS for the past 20 years. I was so used to dragging and dropping and it working 1st time that I thought it would be the same. The problem is, I love all things gadgety but my mind just can't cope with them (it must be an age thing, I really hope not). So if you could possibly explain how to get the progame to my phone via usb I would be truly grateful. If you can, could you PLEEEEAAAASSSEEE explain it very simple as I am not very teccy minded as already mentioned. :)

Thank you in advance.

p.s. Sorry for the long post but I am at my wits end trying to get it sorted. I have browsed for 3 days and asked in all sorts of forums and as yet have had no response.

Hi boys, I finally got CoPilot working as well. I found out that the problem was when downloading voice files when I first selected UK voice it didn't work. And now I tried US voice and it works. Downloading all maps as I speak!

Hi zleepy,
I really wish I had come across this before I purchased the map now because the one you have the barcode for and the one I purchased are the same. I have been intouch with them to ask them why their map is not as up to date as Tom Tom's. I am really disappointed about the new road not being on it. It makes me wonder how many other roads are not on it??? I paid £26.99 for the maps of UK & Ireland and really do wish I hadn't jumped in feet first :( . I know I won't get a refund because it was downloaded so I have said that I really want an explanation why they are charging for an outdated map??? It has been a couple of days and I have not heard a thing yet apart from the automated response email, so it would seem that their customer service is as outdated as their maps.

Come on CoPilot navigate your way to your complaining customers, you have got the tools so you shouldn't get lost unless you are on the bypass at the end of my road.... hahahah :D Just a little pun there to stop me from shouting or pulling my hair out at them. When after all, it's idiots like me that pay for their product, that is paying their wages doh!!!
