Hello
First need to apologize, total smart phone newb here. I don't know what "rooting" a phone is, and although I have read alot there is tons I still don't understand. So please be kind.
I am hooked on trying out new apps. I am using an Xperia X10 under AT&T.
I have read and tried to implement the directions for going through settings/apps/manage apps/etc to tick off a supposed setting to allow installation for apps not sourced under the Android Market. However, I have read all over that this option is not on our phones, or AT&T phones, not sure which the problem lies with but I've spent unending hours on the phone with AT&T support and they won't help at all, saying its 3rd party issues they won't deal with, not a security issue.
So, my question is this, has ANYONE found a solution for the error message "For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in the Android Market".
I cannot install my beta Swype apk file, can't install apps I downloaded and backed up to my SD card that got wiped out after a factory data reset SIM card issue, or install apk files anywhere else unless directly found under the Android Marketplace. I find this pretty irritating, its my phone, if i want to install a application from mty own SD card, I should be able to. None of the "quick fix" going through settings/applications/manage applications leads to anything because the option that is listed as a next step (ticking off other sources or something like that) is present on this phone.
I am out of a pc at the moment, so could anyone that finds a solution to this issue, please email me at kat.polter@gmail.com. I so appreciate any help with this, I've been fighting with AT&T and other places for weeks without a solution!
