Unlocked? I presume you mean SIM unlocked, this does not mean the phone is not T-Mobile branded as unlocked and debranded are two very different things.
Something similar has been covered on here recently, T-Mobile phones unless bought from the Carphone Warehouse run UK Generic software but are still branded to T-Mobile. To be sure of this press back, menu, menu, back, menu, back, back, menu to enter the service menu. Here you will find service info and you should be able to deduct the answer from that, if the phone says T-Mobile branded then you'll either have to debrand the phone which you can find more about on XDA Developers Forum or wait for T-Mobile to release the update. If it says Brand Customized then there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to update.

Mine is simlocked to T-mobile, done nothing to it, not rooted or debranded, etc. got a message from sony ericsson update service told me an update was available, so I got it. Just remember that when you do get it, back up your phone first
make sure you use the correct version of BnR. someone learnt this the hard way, and luckily it was reversible. i don't want you guys to make the same mistakes.
update BnR if you use it to back contacts up!! if you're on the cloud, this is not applicable

I did back up, but the new feature of linking facebook and twitter contacts into my phone contacts confused me a bit so i ended up deleting all my contacts on my google account, which was also synced. luckily i had all my text messages backed up using BnR and all I had to do was recreate my contact list by working out whose number sent me which text message... Pain but it worked.
Just to let you know, this is what my hidden menu settings say:
Phone Software Version 1227-4612_2.0.A.0.504 GENERIC USER
File System Version: WORLD010408_2.0.A.0.504
S1 Boot Version 1226-2253-R8A013
There is more, but these (I think) are the important ones.
yeah.. and i don't think there's a way to disable social phonebook as well. if i'm not mistaken, it's an android 2.1 thing, not SE. they probably added more places we can add (?). nonetheless, it was the feature i was looking forward to as well
