Internet access

I have an X10 running 1.6, from Vodafone. I was told the phone was unlocked. I am currently in Malawi using the Zain/Airtel network sim for phone calls. I can get an Edge signal where we live, and a 3G connection in the city, but when I try to access the internet (eg browser/facebook)I get a 403 Forbidden web page message. I have noticed that under mobile network settings "auto internet settings" is shaded out. Is there anyway I can access the internet using this phone and this SIM?
