I have down loaded a program called "freedictionary. But it is a zipped folder and not the usual APK extension.

Pls help me in explaining how to install from a zipped folder. Actually I have unzipped and have put it in the sd card in the sony xperia mini pro android 1.6 version.

Is it an apk that is inside the zip or has out been turned into a zipped file?
Either do as tookie said or using a file manager like Astro, long press the file and choose extract.

Thanks for the response. I have extracted and saved the folder in sd. The files in the folder is folder meta-inf; folder res; file android manifest an xml file; file classes.dex; and file resources.arsc.

As Tookie sugested it wont help if i change the name of the folder to apk extension. Becos when the folder is clicked the above mentioned files are seen and need to know how to proceed to install the program.

=/ not very familiar with windows, are you?
do you have any idea how to change extensions? for Win 7: in my computer > tools > view > uncheck hide extensions for known file type
so using your app.zip, change app.zip to app.apk. then transfer it in someway to your phone, then install it. or use adb to do it.. but i suggest you just xfer to your sdcard.

Feel so good to rcv ur guidance. I would like to inform that the zipped folder is already extracted and saved as folder for example "futureweather" in xperia mini pro sd card. Based on ur instruction I renamed the folder as "futureweather.apk". So when I click on the folder using 'astro file manager', it opens the files i mentioned in my thread.
Hope u give me some help and guidance and will wait for a while to read ur reply/response. thnks n brgds/captgnvr

Yeah tookies right, you need to change the file extension to .apk and that can be done on a PC or just as easily on your phone via Astro or another file explorer.

I traced my thread back and once again apologize for not ack the pains u hv taken to put the images for my understanding.

I would appreciate if you could give me links to read up on what u said regarding, packing it and signing it.

Pls guide me how to install from a zipped folder or a folder.

Some of the application I downloaded for example, FREEDICTIONARYORG.

It has three folders inside namely: androidmanifest; assets; classes. How to install this program "FREEDICTIONARYORG"

The zip file you originally download first, just needs to be renamed from blahblah_your_file.zip to blahblah_your_file.apk

Pay no attention to the content you extracted first, that was just to dertime if it was a *.apk that was zipped or if it was an *apk that was renamed to *.zip.

Thnks ur response.

The file on my sd card in xperia mini pro shows as FREEDICTIONARYORG.

When I click on it --It has three folders inside namely: androidmanifest; assets; classes.

How to install this program "FREEDICTIONARYORG".

or

Take this program for ex: best_quotes_1.5.zip

When I click on it there are three folders inside namely: androidmanifest; res; and resources.

How to install programes like this?

Pls note that merely changing the ""best_quotes_1.5.zip"" to ""best_quotes_1.5.apk" doest not work and gives a message "program not installed".

PMSL - Think you're fighting a loosing battle fellas!
Round and round we go, where we stop, nobody knows!

The penny may drop eventually!
The only suggestion I can come up with is sell the x10 mini and buy yourself a Nokia 3210

The dude gave you a diagram my daughter could understand... You brought it on yourself.
May I suggest a few deep breaths, go back to square one and follow the guide you have already been given instead of waiting for answers you already have.
