installation from Unknown Sources not showing

I have tried to search for ways to get non market apps on my Xperia X10 that I just picked up last night while shopping around at a Sony Style Store. I really like the phone, but really dont like that you can't install other apps that are not from the Market Store. I have been using a iPhone which I will be switch back and forth. I did see that most users refer to putting a check mark in Setting>Applications> but there is nothing that has the Unknown Sources box. Thanks.

Hey,

Try Menu => Settings => Applications => then click the tick box for unknown sources.

This should allow you to install Apps that are not from the Android Market.

Works for me.

Hope that helps ;)

Gusmac, for some reason it doesn't show up in my Xperia X10. I did go to Menu ( the bottom left button) >settings> Applications> All I get is Manage applications & Development. That's all that shows up. Any cues, what can be happening? Thanks your help

Could it be SE restrict something in X10a? Only American friends can conclude this, but with X10i we have not an issue!!

I have tried using SlideLoader, I think that's what its called to load apk files on the X10, but the program doesn't find the X10, so not able to this. Was also trying to root the phone but no luck. Anyone know of a way to root a X10 on AT&T?

Well seems that I finally got to root the phone. I did it using Windows XP. I tried installing Barnacle WiFi Tether using Sideloader, but that gave me a error saying that one of the files was not valid, from the Sideloader app. So I guess I'm a little closer to getting this X10a customized to the way I want it. I still have my iPhone 4; which by the way was the easiest jailbreak ever. Too bad they don't have ways to root and install apps that easy. I have the AT&T X10, which doesn't let you install any pograms not in the market place.

Can't say I have had this problem.
Got an X10i on Orange UK and the only things I haven't been able to install are those that aren't compatible with donut 1.6 or that need MT

Well I still having trouble for my Windows 7 64Bit machines to recognize the X10. Everytime I use either Sideloader, or SDK to have it find my device, it never does. I actually went to the Sony store yesterday to return it, but left the store without returning it. I thought that I would give it another chance and see if I can find another way to install Barnacle Tether. I use MyWi on my iPhone 4 and need it for my job, because I am out of the office and need to access computers back at office and for email. Well I found "AppBrain" its a App market place and it had Barnacle there. I setup a account and installed Barnacle. :D now its more likely that I will keep the phone. I do have 30 days to return it, so still giving it a test and if 2.1 update gets further delayed, it will go back and waitn and see the new X12. I also installed another app called "Fast Web Installer" which lets me go online to the AppBrain site and chose download of any app I want on my X10, and it downloads without me even touching my X10. Very cool if you just browsing on your computer and want to install apps directly to your X10.
