The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android smartphone is now on sale in Japan. NTT DoCoMo is the main Japanese carrier and its President, Ryuji Yamada, has revealed that the handset has received over 50,000 pre-orders in a special launch event for the phone.

The company is doing its best to fight off competition from the Apple iPhone. This has led to a big marketing effort from Sony Ericsson. Looks like it was noticed judging by the queue of people waiting to pick up the handset attached after the cut!
