Xperia X8 now shipping around the world

Xperia X8Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X8 is now shipping in a number of markets around the world. It’s already been on sale in the UK over the last week and other markets should have it very soon, if not already on sale. As we already knew the phone is shipping with Android 1.6 but will get the upgrade to Android 2.1 at some point after the Xperia X10 family, although definitely this year according to SE.

The Xperia X8 is good value for money at £129 in the UK from Tesco on O2 and we’ve seen similar deals in other regions. The X8 is broadly similar to the X10 mini but comes with a 3.0-inch screen compared to 2.6-inches for the X10 mini. However the camera sensor is not as good (only 3.2MP with no autofocus).   2. 1.6 get a grip. my x10 is doing funky things keeps loseing signal and wifi keeps cutting off shite phones

  4. I got two doubts about my X10 mini pro, can anyone try to answer them?
    1. Is there a way to avoid my wifi connection being stopped whenever my phone screen turns off?
    2. Is it my phone only or the default android browser can’t use 3g connection to navigate? (wifi works fine on it, 3g works on opera mini)

    @Luke, I’m guessing it’s your provider or some app interfering, since I can use both native droid browser and Opera mini with 3g, aswell as wifi ofc. Using X10 mini pro.

    Wifi turning off should be sent to SE customer service I guess, so they can roll out a hotfix for that.

  6. Luke, go to settings – wireless controls – wifi s
    ettings – push settings button – pick advanced – then wifi sleep policy and in there you can change the wifi not to turn off when your phone screen goes to sleep 😉

    I did it already, got it set to “never” since I bought the phone.
    “Never” is how much it worked as well.
    Seems I got myself with a buggy phone? I hope 2.1 update to fix this.

  9. What is it with SE. They are really proud of their TimeScape.
    Two years later….

    We have Xperia X18a running android version 1.6 with new Timescape interface.

    Go figure/

  11. what is it with se and releasing inferior phones with inferior software htc have inferior phones like the wildfire and hero yet they have better software than sony, they wonder why sales are declining in sony phones absolutley stupid, the company should stick to tvs and give up on the phone market alltogether as they have proved time and time again that they cant keep up and will always be behind with the phone market.

    And… since SE said X8 will get 2.1 before this year for sure, we can surely think it will be before this year + several months after ^^
    SE will probably upgrade to 2.1 its products when Android 7.0 will be out 😉

  18. Apart from an opportunity to troll, what exactly did you idiots hope to achieve by reading and then commenting on the above article.
    Everyone knows the situation – We don’t care for the incessant whining anymore. Once you hit puberty you will realize that a phone update to the latest and greatest OS is quite insignificant in the broader context of a persons life.
    Seriously, you guys need to deal with insecurity issues instead of complaining about a stupid phone update.

  20. I tried this phone today, very nice mid-range phone! 1.6 or 2.1, who cares… the Sony Ericsson UI is great, the only bad thing with this phone is that typing on it isn’t the greatest.

  24. Which makes me wonder – if the update is just 2 weeks away, why releasing X8 to the market now, and not waiting 2 weeks before the update is ready. No guys, there will be no update in October. Hold your horses.

    I really want to buy this phone for my girlfriend. Can Anyone tell me if she can use this phone with an app prom market (i use ARCMedia) to view AVI and mpeg movies?

    In other words, I klnow my X10 can handle it, but i am worried that the 600MHZ processor is too slow for movies.

    Both the phones r good…but in diff aspects…
    X10 mini has 5 mp cam with auto-focus & flash..
    X8 has bigger screen 3.0 inch as comp to mini’s 2.55..
    as the screen is bigger in X8 it aslo has higher resolution..
    & mostly all android app wil be working on X8…but not on X10 mini(bcoz of resolution)..

    & if ur Texting is way 2 much…then go 4 X10mini pro(Qwerty Keyboard)…

    I wld suggest X8…
