Sony Ericsson releases Panorama App for Xperia X10

Sony Ericsson release Panorama App for Xperia X10Sony Ericsson has released a brand new app for the Xperia X10 called ‘Panorama beta’. The app allows you to create an easy panoramic picture by selecting a direction, pressing the capture button and then panning the camera to shoot the photo. This is a ‘Sony Ericsson Beta’ app so it is still work in progress, however from our play time it is very good and well worth downloading.

It is currently available on the Android Market, search for ‘panorama beta’. However, it is only available on X10 handsets running stock Android 2.1 firmware. It will not work for those running custom ROMs. We could also not find the app using our Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY which means that for now it is only visible to the Xperia X10. However, if you want to give it a try you can always download the apk here.

Update: zdzihu from xda-developers has released a fix that allows this app to be used on custom ROMs. Click here for more details.

  1. it works well and a good idea, however whats the point if it’s only available for 2.1, when it’s supposed to get the 2.3 upgrade soon :S, perhaps they’ll allow other xperia after the beta testing is completed?

  2. Very good app… Easier than attempting to connect the side of the last photo with the view of the next… Just swipe your phone through the air, what a good idea… Hopefully they’ll release it, after beta testing, for 2.3.

  3. Off course they will release this to Gingerbread. Or do you think that they would release a version of such an interesting program like this to use only within 2 months? By the way, I can’t download it.

  4. Yes! this is what i am talking about…they should release this function a year ago.

  5. I think that they add this app in the 2.3 update, considering that they’ll leave us with stock android camera.

  6. Very nice. Downloaded as soon as it was out. I’m a little surprised they didn’t do this before. Should be fun testing its progress through beta stage… And by the way, SE, if you want me to test your 2.3.3 in beta for you I’d be happy to do it 😉

  7. Really cool app… Panorama shooting had never been so easy… Quality is quite good either…

  8. excellent app. I hope to see it included in the Gingerbread update as a final and better application. Well done SE. And thanks xperiax10.net for the news. i wouldn’t have noticed it without you sharing the news. Keep them coming!

  9. goku, this is a great app, it will make your cock look massive when your posting pictures on mobile phone forums !

Was thinking of decorating the spare cover for the x10, maybe a shiney black finish with some design on it then laqured.

  11. I installed the app and tried it sometimes, but i get vertical stripes at the point where the phone connects the different shots. They get wider when i move the phone faster and smaller when i move it slowly.
But it’s a beginning and a beta so i just wait for the next release.

  12. tallooooola get you rocks on! give me the app, i need this shit sorting out, wow

  13. ah c905 was a great cameraphone.
nice app but had to dl the apk from here, couldn’t find it on the market…
seems to work fine even though beta.

  14. I finally hour a chance to put this app through the paces this past weekend and WOW! Works great, but I also experience some vertical “banding” on most shots. A few turned out just right without any banding at all. I got a shot where 3 mountain valleys connect and the photo goes from southeast all the way to straight north. Incredible stuff and I hope it gets even better for full release.

  15. Hey Guys,
I’m working on a new panorama photography service and was wondering if I could pick your heads on your views of existing mobile phone based panorama creation tools such as this one released by Sony or Microsoft’s Photosynth for iOS. Would be grateful if you could take a few minutes and fill out the survey below…Please substitute Panorama Beta app for Xperia X10 instead of Photosynth in the questions..
