Custom Froyo Rom for X10 hits Beta 2, gets camera fix

Custom ROMThe custom Android 2.2 (Froyo) ROM for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has reached ‘Beta 2’ stage. Zdzihu from xda-developers has included a number of minor fixes but the headline feature is a working camera (although video recording is still out of action). The latest hotfix also includes RockPlayer (the media player capable of playing raw divx files). If you’re wondering where to begin, there are some good instructions here on how to get started.

  1. These guys @ XDA should run the board of directors of SE… nice step forward for the “dead walking” X10

  2. This was added last night to XDA forums, and a hotfix was released not long after. keep an eye on the forum for more hotfix’s

Z is a great and fast developer and spends most of his time working on the ROM to keep x10 users happy.

  3. Just connected my X10 to SEUS, no update available. Surprise.

I’m donating $20 to XDA and installing this ROM.
Leave it to the good folks at XDA to get the job done, and a big thank you to them.
SE, you are a bloody disgrace.

  4. Great job XDA, I have flashed beta2 + MT, all worked well apart known video camera, the problem I have is no 3G network, anyone else got same issue or is there a easy fix for it, or maybe just a simple setting change, please help, thanks.

  5. Cant wait for the video camera to work, will it be able to capture in HD? and is tethering enabled with the custom 2.2 rom?? plus what else is not working on the latest 2.2 custom rom??

  6. you guys should check out the main thread for the 2.2 rom
you will find lots of info about the rom (theres just over 200 pages to the thread lol)

however its a development thread for the developers so i think they can be a bit touchy when they get posts about issues that they already know about, or people asking for info that is on the first page of the thread lol

which i think is understandable, as they have to sift through it all to iron out the bugs and the kinks..

but still zip on over there and give the first page a good read and the how too section
even if its just for the knowledge 🙂

  7. just realised i updated to the wrong version. 2.0.2.A.0.24 officail, can some one post a guide on getting it back to 2.0.2.A.0.504, so i can root it please!!!, much appricated!!!

  8. Guys, if you can, please donate to Zdzihu. He deserves a cold beer for resurrecting our phones.

  9. hey i hav many doubts!
1.wat all thing are not functioning still??
    2. can we go back to se update after installin custom??
    3. plzz send me the link of how to do the entire procedure of installn custom 2.2!!

    plzz do reply

  10. @ Goku, you can root 2.0.2.A.0.24 now too, using a different method. Search the XDA forum for the guide and program, I cant remember the link atm. The program is called SuperOneClick V1.5.5 by ShortFuse.

  11. by the time ppl on the x10 get the custom rom that barely works most others will have the arc on 2.3 and you will have a dodgy version of 2.2 haha FAIL you will be moaning for 2.3 with a phone that isnt designed to handle it 😛

  12. SE should have made a firmware version that is without all their heavy customizations and just include mediascape and timescape as apps that can have widgets on the screen.
Even with root and JITv2 enabled, the X10i still has moments when lagging and being somewhat unresponsive.

  13. @Jord,

if you want to get an Arc, go ahead and enjoy it! let other people who wants to get the most out of their x10s get the custom ROMs.

you see, if SE have released at least 2.2, most people would be happy. we know the hardware limitations of the phone, like, would you be putting windows7 on a pentium4 processor? of course not!

  14. Have been running Beta 2 (have had Froyo on my X10 since the XDA guys released it) for over 24 hours and it’s brilliant!!#
Even have the multitouch patch as well 🙂

    @jigsy, to answer your queries:
    1. Camcorder not working, Wifi tether works but can cause the phone to reboot when stopped.
    2. Yes can reflash to official firmware and ROM via SEUS at anytime
    3. Please read the link on XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900441), you will need xrecovery too (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571)

  15. do anyone know if there is also any 2.2@2.3 ROM for X10mini..??does this Zdzihu ROM also compatible with X10mini..??

  16. Put on the custom 2.2 rom on my x10 last night. I have to say it works like a charm. apart from video recording not working. everything else works, inc flash, audio, camera, wifi etc. next step i will install dual touch 🙂 soo satisfied 😀

  17. @ jv
yes it does work propely. Mayby you didnt read propely!
except camcorder and zoom it is work fine

    do it again !!

  18. @SE X10MP this is a forum i am free to express my option u tool, no matter how much u hate SE you have their phone so they couldnt care less they will continue to bring out new phones so keep seething u are 1 person of millions who are their customers so they couldnt give a fuck about you 😀

  19. I have been running this rom for 2 days now and it is extremely stable. If u want 2.2 get this, it works like a charm minus camcorder functionality.

  20. Jord you little bitch. This is an effort by the good people of XDA to provide free support and improvements to our shitty phones, something the incompetent losers of SE don’t care to do. If you don’t appreciate that, fuck off and troll elsewhere you asshat.

  21. I don’t hate Se, if i’ll have a chance buy an arc. But i’ll using the custom rom till then.
Now i have the second beta and it’s really great!

  22. Asshat?

Good to hear people are gettin some 2.2 goodness from this Rom. Been using it myself for about a week and a half, very nice!

  23. Looks like CYANOGEN ROM is being ported to the X10 now too by TripNRaVeR over at XDA…………………He also has a MIUI ROM that is 90% + functional…..BOTH are 2.2 FROYO based……LIFE IS GOOD!! Got some dang good DEV’S working hard for us and all that love the Xperia X10!!!

    Best regards,

    Chris

  24. Havent installed xda 2:2 yet dont know if ive got the know how but just wanted to say thank you to xda for helping us where se failed us thanx 100% xda will donate any £20 when i get help to install 2:2 proud of you ! ! !

  25. @ seus.
I followed the instruction for dual touch but doesnt work.when i connect my phone to flashtool. and press back, it wont connect in flash for flashtool to install dualtouch. are you trying to say that if i put the dual touch in the root of sd card. and install using xrecovery as custom zip. that it will work like that?

  26. @ seus, power off your phone, take battery out for min 15 sec, then put back, start flash tool, click connect, select x10, message popup say wait for green light, then hold back button and connect micro usb, then click Ok in flash tool, you ready to go. have fun!

  27. @goku Easy, you can find it on market. if not, download titanium backup from market and then when you open it click ‘problems’ it should install busybox.

  28. ptcrb has yet approved another fw for the x10 dated 19 Jan. I wonder what this is. but yeah, the 2.2 custom rom is great thus far 🙂

  29. Funny how you all go on like these xda guys are doing a good job lol. I’ve installed one of three roms and I think there absolutely terrible, dull, and more boring than a nokia 3310.

  30. @SE X10MP just for your information windows 7 runs really well on Pentium 4, not sure how that has to do with your point with Jord.

  31. @ lol bob the gun im sure you have used one of the roms, especially since your comparing it to a nokia 3310. If its so horrible go buy your self a nokia and play snake on it, ignorant tool

  32. @ xpert, what I’m saying is, the legit Sony x10 is a million times better than these broken, dull, empty custom roms. No custom rom will be better than the Sony one. Fact.

  33. Hi All, first I would like to thank you to XDA developrs for making froyo work on x10. I am using same rom for more than 24 hrs and its working gr8. XDA rom starts where SE roms stops. Definately XDA guys are rocking with Custom ROM

  34. @ bob the nob and jord
Lol what u on about mate the eminence rom works perfect. Im sure u work for SE lol and jord how much SE cock r u sucking lol FACT

  35. @Damian cheers dude, got it sorted out, thanks
on another note, i was unable to get the dual touch update so far, for those who have, are you doing it through the pc companion???

  36. Works absolutely great. The guys at XDA are truly awesome. Also enjoy the dual touch more than I expected.

  37. FYI Everybody,

JORD is an SE-Employee. Just look at how he gracefully kisses SE’s ass by promoting the unreleased and for sure laggy ARC in a post about a custom rom for the X10. What an idiot.

Jord go promote and drool about the “unreleased-and-already-obsolete” arc somewhere else you moron! All other disappointed X10 owners will be sporting dual core phones once the arc comes out.

  38. @lol the bob gun
funny, i went from a custom 2.2 to se’s latest 2.1 for backup purposes and i almost threw up on my phone it was so laggy and ugly. SE’s gay rom is brutally choppy and completely locked down, yet this ’empty broken’ rom has FULL flash video, JIT2 (which makes to phone over twice as fast), and apps2sd. Not to mention WAY better battery life, and every other upgrade with 2.2.

  39. @bandit lol. thanks, but im not on custom, still on standard SE 2.1, but might give it a go later.

  40. Have anyone tried to solve out the x10 / mw600 compatibility problem…so that we can have track and call id? thanks

  41. @ jord-is-gay

lmao am i a SE employee is i was do u think i would waste my time winding you up making you seeth lol.

Yes i am gay so your insult means nothing. Tbh i doubt the arc will be laggy. But u already have a x10 thats laggy enough lol. I like how u all seething over SE yet still are stuck with the phone that is hillarious then you try to modify it with a custom rom that doesnt even have the basic functions i think we call that desperation!!!
SE will leave that x10 in the dark as a blooper and you will be stuck with it haha. You so desperate for the latest update u risk feckin ya phone up when it works perfectly fine you must have to much time on ya hands to worry about an update poor losers

  42. Hey. I need flash badly, and app requires 2.2 or higher with flash. Using X10 with 2.1 I have neither… Will I be able to install flash player on this 2.2 rom?

  43. Just installed…Amazing, fast, and seems very stable. Makes the X10 useable, was ready to switch back to a Blackberry.

  44. DEAR XDA,
(I THINK) BEAT 1 IS MORE STABLE THAN BETA 2. BECAUSE ON MY X10 BETA 2 IS CRASHING MORE TIME AS COMPARED TO BETA 1. FACT IS THAT BETA 1 HAS NEVER CRASHED ON MY X10.
BUT ON BETA 2 THERE ARE NUMBERS OF BUGS ARE EATING MY MIND. LIKE FACEBOOK CRASH, CONTACT CRASHES, CAMERA CRASHES, GALLERY CRASHES, OTHER 3RD PARTY APPS, LIKE MOBI GUARD CRASHES. AND COUNTING.
SO I HAVE SWITCHED BACK TO BETA 1.
AND RESTORE SE OFFICIAL WHEN I NEEDED CAMERA.

  45. Does this happen to anybody else?

After I install the free x10 rom the instructions say reboot to android for 2 mins then reboot again and install gapps_1901. but mine just loops the SE logo over and over no matter what.

Any help would be desperately appreciated 🙁

  46. Ok I got 2.2 😀

but in my haste I made a mistake i backed everything up on SE back up and restore :/

any idea’s how to get my contacts and everything? i don’t mind that much about apps just contacts

  47. @ Nav

just a sugestion, bit of pissing about but..

you could flash back to the SE 2.1 via seus, restore your stuff (i.e contacts)
and from there make a .vcf or Vcard backup of your contacts by

    starting the contacts app
press the menu key, (far left)
and from the menu tap backup
then tap memory card (or sim card but id say use the memory card)
it will ask you to confirm the backup so just tap “ok” and away ya go..

then when you have re-flashed to 2.2 open up the contacts app and again,
press the menu key, and tap import contacts, and again memory card..

it should then list the .vcf files just tap the one you made and it should restore your contacts 🙂

  48. @ Moreno

yes you can install flash 🙂

when you have the 2.2 rom up and running, just go to the market and download it from there..

ive tried it and can confirm it to work 🙂

im kinda flirting back and forth between this rom and the SE 2.1 at the moment..
mainly as i require the camcorder to be working for an up comming event 🙂

but after that ill be using the 2.2 rom, and hopefully the camcorder will be working by then anyway 🙂

  49. Does anybody has news about the ghostly dual touch update???
It look like the 2.1 update, announced in september release in december.
OMG,, why these sucker of SE do always use these fake announcement effect, maybe they want us to forget/forgive them because they abandonned us 8months after the release of the x10.. they sick

  50. This is so great! Keep up the good work you guys.

At the moment, I am using SE’s 2.1, but when this beta makes it to a stable release with flash, working camera, and I can use Barnacle, I will be overjoyed. I would also send a nice donation in appreciation for your efforts. Thanks for all your hard work. The x10 just gets better and better.

  51. @ Edwin

Im not 100% but i think the rom is not dual bootable…

As far as i know you have to wipe the se rom, at least thats the way it worked for me 😉

Still, have a read of the thread over at xda 🙂

  52. Edwin @ Dualboot with SE ROM is no longer possible since you need xRecovery to install this ROM (xRecovery being the 2nd boot)

  53. hey i wanted some help from u guys….
m running the froyo rom beta 2 n i have backed up my original se 2.1 rom in xrecovery n my contacts r missing….so is there any way i can get my contacts n apps backed up n i can resotre it on 2.2 rom(froyo beta 2) also how can we switch from rom to rom! i tried to restore my 2.1 se rom but all my apps on 2.2 were gone and i had to install the apps all over again! so is there anyway to switch between two roms without data loss?? thanks! 🙂

  54. @ neerajk

You might wanna give titainium backup from the market, im sure there is a free one.

You can install it on both 2.1 and 2.2, so therefore in theroy
You should be able to backup and restore the apps that are compatible with both roms.
As for your contacts, it would be easier to do a vcard back up of your contatcs from the contacts app.

Open your contacts, press the left button then tap backup 🙂
    And to restore,
When you have your rom of choice installed, open your contacts and press the left key then tap import, and select the vcard file or .vcf , and restore 🙂

  55. I just tried the Freex10 Froyo from Z (BETA3)
Works really perfect! Almost like a final :O
From now its only tuning the really small things 🙂

  56. HW Version SW Version Date Certified
    A 2.1.1.A.0.6 Jan 25, 2011

one more development from SE. lets hope its something good after listening to tonnes of criticism.

  57. hey CHAZ thanks for answering my doubts!!
will still wait for camcorder fix coz i need it on regular basis!
    😀 Cheers everyone!!

  58. You can use titanium backum to make a bu of apps, but just watch because this app was causing reboots.I would sugest o do a clean install so if there is any app causing the reboots you will know which one is if you install them one by one, with time.

  59. Can someone help me.. everytime i root my device using superoneclick, i goes to “Waiting for Device” and it gets stuck there. I thinks its because of the DRIVER, how can i install the driver for x10? help pls..

  60. been running this ROM and its freaking awesome!! f*ck SE dont give a shit bout the latest update (have DT already). THANKS XDA!
