Unlocking phone

Postby mr2haz » Sun Jul 25, 2010 8:21 am

Having owned a x10 since April I have just purchased a x10 mini pro for the mrs. I picked it up on pay and go with o2 but need it to be unlocked so she can use her current sim card in it. o2 advised this can be done on their website but did not mention the process will take 28 days!

I have been to a few local independant phone shop who have offered to unlock the phone with quotes from £15 to £35. They have requested I leave the phone with them for a day or two which I am not comfortable with.

Is there a better way of sorting the problem or somewhere I can fix this myself?

Can't speak for O2, but have done this several times with T-Mobile UK. Whilst they also quote a month, in every case I've always received the unlock code within a week. Personally I prefer to go through the official unlock route rather than using a third-party.

I'm with X10 on this. I wouldn't feel comfortable to leave my phone in a 'local' shop.
T-Mobile UK told me 7-28 days. I think it took about 3 weeks, but I was happy to wait. Only paid £15, so that was good.

In the past, I remember 3 telling me that I had to wait until my contract was uop before I could unlock through them - or pay up the remainder of my contract!!!

SO, good on T-mobile for being sensible. Although if they just made unbranded, unlocked phones in the first place, life would be a lot simpler for all concerned!

If the above options arent available to you, then I would only take it to a place where you can have it done 'while you wait' (and watch!!).

ps- also take a note of your IMEI number - just in case.
