Postby cuddles1 » Sun Jan 30, 2011 4:38 am

Hi with my orange contract i have unlimited text message but jus noticied if i make a message that is two/three messages long it charges me for message two and three. Does anyone know if there is a way round this because i cant find any text message settings or nythin. tried searchin for an app or something but with no luck!

I guess, the default SMS character size is 160. So simple way is to make sure that you don't cross that limit. You can check that on top of the SMS text box in your X10.

Hope this helps.

Well, I'm not sure if another method exists, but you can try different Messaging application that are available from the market. Personally I don't use any of them and hence I'm not sure whether such option exists (to warn user of the second sms)

Firstly delivery reports are not set to on by default and a delivery report in android is very different to other phones/OS's, it doesn't alert you a such. All you can do is tap the green tick or long press the message and select delivery report to confirm delivery.
My other SE handsets made an audible alert when a message was received and that is something I miss with android, other phones I have had actually receive a message back as a delivery report (Nokia's I think but that was a very long time ago).
I can't believe your provider charges you for a delivery report, I would be seriously pissed about that and typing out an email to customer support.
Who is your provide, if you don't mind me asking?

JayJ, I guess your are wrong in some part is that... in 1.6 the delivery report was not on by default, but in 2.1 SE make it default. (Correct me if I'm wrong too ;) )

I'm pretty sure mine was was not set to on when I flashed 2.1 android?
I don't know, maybe I am wrong!
Still can't believe a provider can charge for a report? Especially with the type of reports on android!

I'm on contract so with 500 txt's a month it matters not whether my provide charges.

Thanks for that jay not even orange knew that android handles delivery reports differently! Very useful info! I am not sure if maybe in one of the recent updates the phone got set to recieve delivery reports by default or it happen when it came unlocked in my pocket (since i only started getting charged for them this month)! Message settings are not even on the settings page so i didnt even know u could change them lol.
It is pretty rude them charging for delivery reports tho it doesnt even say they do anywhere and they are not even labeled as delivery reports on my bill! If it was more than a couple of quid i would have complained but there customer services aint very good so would be more hastle than its worth lol.

Well i have managed to turn them off now hopefully it is sorted now but i cant check my bill because they r working on the site lol. I might do a reflash when i have time jus out of curiosity to see if they were enabled in the latest firmware because i certainly didnt touch them because i never knew they existed lol.! You would think they would be under call settings in the settings menu or something dont quite understand why they are not, pretty weird if u ask me lol.

Glad to hear you have kind if sorted it but confused by your comment above, I thought it was perfectly normal to find delivery reports under sms settings? They are after all reporting an sms has been received, not a call?

Well, go to your text messages option then setting where you will see the character limit of your text, maybe it will set to 160 characters, change it to maximum. I’m sure it will help solve your problem.
