Problem with downloading images-phone not connecting to comp

HI
New to this but need some help! I bought a sony ericsson xperia mini pro for my brother at xmas and now the phone will not download images. It used to ask, when it was connected to the computer, whether you wanted it to charges or access files etc and now it does not ask this at all. He has tried to look for the files by looking on 'my computer' on the computer and it does not show up the phone - the computer does not even seem to recognise that the phone is connected. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Number of things you could try, first would be to pull the statusbar down and check the notifications. There should be a notification of USB connected, if there is tap it to mount the SD Card to the PC (be sure to safely remove the SD Card from the PC once finished and then the same as above to close the mounting of the SD Card).
If this is not the case then try uninstalling the SE drivers from your PC and then reconnecting the phone, it should install the drivers and be able to connect.
Failing all of the above you could try a software repair with SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) available on SE's site.
