Problem with the x10 Camera button

Postby cube » Sun Jan 23, 2011 8:01 pm

Hi all,

I've been around for a while, reading you guys regularly, but haven't really posted, since I found most of my answers by searching the forums. I'm having a pretty weird problem with my camera however. I can't say that it has to do with the 2.1 update, since it worked in the beginning.

It's the button. It works to activate the camera, and it works to start or stop recording a video. BUT... It doesn't work to take pictures. I know it's a 2-stage button, so I've tried pressing it all possible ways, with or without the phone case on. It doesn't focus, it's like the contact doesn't work.

I'm thinking this might be a software problem, since the button works to activate the camera and for videos.

Any help will be greatly appreciated... !

I'd be inclined to think it was a hardware issue tbh, I'd say return it to your service provider or place purchased for repair. The X10i has only be out 9 mths so it'll be under warranty if bought new.
It's a full press to start the camera application and the the same for video mode so the button works but it could be a contact faulty with the half press for focus.
The only other thing you could do would be repair the software with PC Companion or SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service), at least if asked you can say you've done it.

Thanks... will try the repair !

Worst comes to worse, I'll go with the warranty (good until october). I'm trying to avoid that thou, it's always a pain with rogers, plus they don't give a phone to use in the meantime.

At the risk of making myself sound like a right ol' simpleton, it's not the camera settings is it?
Would enabling the 'touch screen capture' prevent the button from working?
Just a thought...

Good thing I'm a lazy bum and didn't do anything about it yet... I didn't even know we could modify the caption settings.

Working fine now XD

I had a smiley (smile detection) in the upper left corner... - Any idea what's the use of that? lol

Thx dude, appreciate the help.

Thats exactly what it says on the tin...
Supposed to detect your 'Target' smiling and automatically take the photo without you having to hit the button...
Guess that would explain it rendering the button useless! ;)

There is no problem with your software because the camera is still opening. I think the camera button is damaged. I suggest a visit to a mobile repairer would fix this.
