Battery life

I just got one of these phones a few days ago and was also very disappointed with the initial battery life.
Was loosing about 80% or so in 24hrs just on standby with all wireless connections off.
However, I've charged it about 5 or 6 times now and I've rooted it and removed a ton of bloatware.
I charged it to 100% last night and this morning it's still at 91% after 12 hours !

I pity SE for such a toy battery.....on such a handy, pretty, cute, and 'useful' handset.....
I think battery is the only shame of this great set. My last and lost E63 was great in this respect !
Well, even great Einstein had his follies........

I cannot trust it with all the precautions suggested....

I was getting a full working day for ages, and then since the last software update about a week ago, it's dead by about 17:00. It charges overnight till about 07:45. I barely use it during work, as I can't have my phone when working. I have the latest free version of Juice Defender operating. Bluetooth and Wifi are hardly ever on also.

Hi guys,
I am really stuck here, please follow me:

I've had my MP for few months now, everything was cool until last week when the battery started to drain-off for no apparent reasons (I am talking about 2-3 hours and is dead-flat).
I am on 2.1 -update 1 , I've tried all the usual tricks (advanced task killer, lowering consumption's settings etc) and I even bought an extra battery which I clearly carry with me (extending, thus, phone's autonomy to 5-6 hours) but, yet, the whole thing is extremely annoying, indeed it's like not having a phone almost. Cannot even blame the migrating from 1.6 to 2.1 as I did it couple of months ago and the phone had worked fine soon after it (apart from some minor stability issues which were solved with followed "update 1").
...Don't know, I am considering the cause to be in some sort of battery's software malfunction, in fact I was thinking to reinstall firmware and start from scratch again, yet only if it's my very last option as it implies the hassle of losing/moving datas etc.
If somebody can help please let me know as I really do not know what to do anymore, anticipate thanks and regards to you all.

I too have experienced weird battery behavior the last couple of days. It could go from 100% to 10% in less than 2 hours. I could not find anything hogging the cpu or acting up in the background. A reboot did not help. I updated to the latest software version 2.1.1.A.0.6, but could not see any difference. Only when putting the phone in airplane mode, the battery usage seemed back to normal. That made me think that it could be something network-related, so I switched to GSM only. Looks like it helped, I now have 28% left after 10hrs and 14mins where usage has been idle 59%, cell standby 36% and display 6%. Still pretty bad, though.

I also suspected updates to the Handcent and Battery Indicator apps to be the problem. An uninstall changed nothing, so they are probably harmless.

Update: My phone will now charge for about 10-15 minutes and then suddenly report that the battery is 100%, regardless of the initial battery level. When I disconnect, the battery indicator drops to what looks to be the real value after another 15 minutes or so. The problem here is that the phone stops charging when it thinks it has reached 100%, so I can never get a full charge. Could this be a software problem or is the hardware that monitors the battery broken?

Looks like this phone might be going in for a repair...

Guys, I have faced the same problem, but after rooting my phone. This weekend I'll reset my phone to factory setting and reinstall the 2.1 update again. Will update as it happens.

Hi guys, just to see if the problem laid in previous upadate, I I've updated again (2.1.1 -A.0.6), same version as I was before I think, but nothing has changed, apart from getting 4more annoying apps (I am unrooted) that's why SEUS gave me the update as "recommended", bastards; don't know what to do at this point, getting back to factory settings seems useless...however the phone did drop down (from table to woodfloor) once but the problem kicked-in like 2weeks after, would you say it could be still related?
Also now I can definetly say that while charging it overheats, quite substantially in fact...any suggestion? Maybe I should mention that I did not properly service the battery when I got the phone but, yet, it was doing great until recently (so for about 6months); lastly it appears that while "on idle" it consumes a lot of battery power, at least that's what battery monitoring app' says.
At this point, I guess, I just have to contact my network (I am on contract with no insurance) and see if they can do anything; just hoped of having been able to help you out more though, peace.

High battery consumption is quite normal for a smart phone and you may have apps and especially widgets now that you didn't have before that having running services and running services drain battery, menu> settings> applications> running services to check.
Any email polling, pushing or syncing will drain battery, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi also heavily drain power from the handset.
However if you feel the phone is significantly overheating then it may be worth contacting your provider, the phone should have a 2 year manufacturing warranty.

Thanx Jay J, I had done all of that already, actually just now it stopped charging altogether! It is definetly something wrong with the handset, still I am much too inclined to blame battery's sofware, it just doesn't function anymore, just had final proof Yet after update it should have fixed itself shouldn't it? Complicate matter...
Don't know if it's worth doing a reinstall at this point, like going back to 1.6...any suggestion?

We're talking X10 Mini here right?

My GF's X10 Mini is back at the retailers being fixed again, this is the second time now and very frustrating for her. The phone wouldn't charge both times, it was sent back about 2 months ago and fixed, it came back fine but went again last week.
I think it's the Micro USB port in the handset that breaks from normal usage and I have also heard of others with this problem, not good!
She tried to get them to change the phone but CPW say it's SE's policy to repair handsets not replace them, another crappy SE policy.
I would say try a software repair with SEUS but if it's the same problem as my GF's then send it in for repair, don't tell then you dropped it though!

A friend of mine has had the same problem with the micro usb port on his x10i breaking. He takes better care of his phone than I do with mine and has had to be fixed twice!

Ok thanx guys for trying to help, I really appreciate it. Sadly I still think I am stuck though. Mine is a Mini Pro by the way; so you are saying it could be micro-usb problem after all...it's just that it was charging though and, most of all, when I inserted full charged battery (please note that I used a wall charger to charge it) it wouldn't last the same, so that's why I am thinking the problem lays somewhere else and not in usb as if it had been that the cause the "wall-charged battery" would have lasted as normal (and not dropping without reasons).
Anyway I really think there's not much I can do, provider here I come

What I wanted to mean by "wall charger" was an actual charger where I put the bare battery-in, so basically I don't use phone to charge battery (thus not any micro-usb used); I bought the device 'cause I have two batteries (with these phone you really need an extra battery...now not even 4 will do ;p ) and I wanted to have them always charged.

Yeah I had looked into that too yet I had read bad reviews but if you say it's actually lasting I might try it all the same (I looked into few forums), reality of things is that this MPs are a total rip-off (as for their small battery), I might just as well move to smtg else now,
