effective strategy to get X10 updates to 2.2, 2.3, & beyond

Postby shonangreg » Wed Jan 19, 2011 2:30 pm

I have begun posting comments every time I find an article on SonyEricsson's Xperia arc advising consumers looking for phones to take into consideration SE's current history of updates for the existing Xperia X10 series which are all still under contract. If a lot of us just continue doing this, then SonyEricsson will see these comments -- and consumers will think twice about getting a SE phone when there are other choices available.

Below is what I wrote on a couple of recent articles on the Xperia arc. Please feel free to amend this to suit your purposes. Also, please improve on my attempt and post your scripts for other people to post -- and provide links to some of the high traffic sites. Because SonyEricsson really is demonstrating its commitment now, spreading these messages really does have promise to force SonyEricsson to change course -- if they want to continue selling phones!

With contracts being typically 2 years, SonyEricsson's decision to abandon updates to the Xperia X10 series in less than one year is disgraceful, especially with the benefits of 2.2 (adobe flash, install to SD, processor optimizations, etc.).

And with SonyEricsson demonstrating this attitude with the existing, high-performance Xperia X10 series (which is more than capable of running 2.2, 2.3, and later), why would anyone trust them to do any different on the new Xperia arc?

The meaning of SonyEricsson's choices now are obvious to informed consumers: if you want to get the improvements to your phone that come from new versions of android, avoid SonyEricsson. HTC and others have a *much better* track record for providing updates to their customers.

I concur. Change is possible, but only if they are basically forced to. The biggest problem I see is that it may take too long for it to happen. If Sorry Errorson sees that it is too late to save their reputation, they may not do it at all. All X10 owners should post comennts on ALL new S.E. product blogs and forums. When they see their bottom line being hit, that's when they may start to really think about doing the right thing. I want my 2.3!

I totally understand what your saying here but I'm not so sure SE really care so long as they're making money and too many people know SE's hardware is good quality and there are many average users that care not whether their phone has the latest update.
Even if SE released 2.2 or 2.3 I wouldn't install it into my phone because the layers SE created on top of the android OS seriously slow the phone down, the best way to go with the X10 IMO is with a custom ROM. My phone is so much faster running Froyo and yes some of that is the 2.2 OS but also the fact it doesn't have layers upon layers of SE Rachel UI, Timescape and Mediascape crap.
I hope SE have leant by this and it is unfair we were the guinea pigs for SE, they need to make it up to us to keep up customer satisfaction.
Personally I'm sticking with custom ROMs and my next android phone won't be SE.

Good luck with your message.

Wow! WE DID IT?! :D
Great news to kick off a great weekend! I guess people like me throwing negative comments on all their facebook/blog posts actually had an impact. If this turns out to be B.S. just to shut us up while they release Arc & Play, I will ramp up the heat to my flames in a big way. In the meantime, I still haven't decided what to do with my early hardware upgrade status. Maybe I'll wait for the dual core phones to hit the shelves and get one. I'm going to celebrate tonight after work for sure. 8-)

Very good news, I stand corrected!

I'll remain sceptical and believe it when I see it though.

As opposed to skeptical; I'm cautiously optimistic. :|

Well two things i have to say firstly to you guys who put SE under pressure well done.I was the sceptic about your ideas. But also well dont to Sony who have shown they are not just a 100% money orientated outfit which today is surpriseing.i have no doubt we will get gingerbread even if its July or August but lets hope we get in May.Great news and add that to the wonderful reliability of the product it confirms that I will stick with Sony Ericsson when my beloved x10 days are done

Question is: What makes you think it's not about money? I think it may be about money still. As I've said in earlier posts: Millions of angry X10 owners can have a negative impact on sales. I'm not trying to be pissy, just realistic. Most of us that post here know that S.E. was/is capable of modifying the Android version from Arc to work on X10 because the actual hardware is nearly identical. I'm thrilled that we have got update coming and better late than never. As for my loyalty our lack thereof towards S.E.: They will have to come out with a truly remarkable and innovative device to ever win back my full respect. Arc should have Xenon flash, FM tuner/transmitter, dual core processor, HDMI out, DLNR, NFC & more, but no it doesn't. Big let down really and I'm not buying it. I'm hoping my next device is dual core. :ugeek:
