Can not connect to WiFi

Postby MrCooper » Sat Oct 23, 2010 11:41 am

Hello, I'm a new owner of an x10 mini. I'm trying to get it to connect to my house WiFi. No matter what I try and do it will not get past the stage of acquiring the IP address. It tries this for a while and then concludes the connection was unsuccessful.

The home network is a "G" system using WEP encryption.

Any guidance to help me get the phone connected would be appreciated.

Hi,
Maybe a dumb remark, but did you check on your wifi router if you have MAC filtering enabled ?
If so you will have to add the MAC address from your phone to the MAC filter table.

Not a dumb point mate, but no, no MAC filtering and everything connects on a dynamic IP address.

this is very important.
is yours hidden SSID? if i'm not mistaken, android (at least 1.6) can't do hidden SSID on stock. i.e. you need apps/root.

if you need an app, Wifi Advanced Config Editor Pro. get that. launch it, at your home network, tap it, look for hidden SSID, tap it, and check the box.

for root.. i'm not sure. haha google it or something. but i would believe it would deal with wpa_supplicant, and a hidden_ssid = "false" thingie or something like that.

Don't think its hidden.

The phone sees the network asks for the key, lets me put it in then tries to get an IP address. At that point it fails, every time. My fiancee's Nokia connects no problem.

Thanks for the advice so far. Keep it cming and I guess we will get there eventually!

is your fone set to use static ip? it's under wireless settings.. also check if your router has this dhcp thingie that issues out internal ip addresses.. but since a nokia can.. then i don't think this is an issue.

so it has probably has to do with stuff on your fone. just do a check on your router make sure it isn't hidden.

other than that.. i'm not sure..

Found some other users with the same issue (and some solutions):

From what I gather of this link the phone itself has problems with WEP security ?
I don't know if this is an option, but try switching securtiy to WPA or WPA2.

I have seen on a bunch of forums a number of possible solutions to this problem that have worked for most people..... AND I HAVE TRIED THEM ALL.... but STILL none of those have worked for me!!!

my router is a DLINK, and i'm on an xperia x10 mini with android 2.1 ... I used to be able to connect to my home wifi (with WEP) and had no trouble at all, until a few weeks ago when this started happening. Still I have no trouble using the wifi at all at my office (with WPA/WPA2 PSK). So I reconfigured my home network to the same config, it is now WPA/WPA2 PSK too... but still, no success in connecting my phone to wi fi....

any new creative solutions??? I'm 2 seconds away from returning it to the company

Access router from pc/mac. Change to lower channels like channel 1-8. Even if it's on a low channel, change it. Reboot router. Turn Phone data synch OFF and find wifi. Try generate new different passkeys from pc/mac. Keep tinkering around, it's probably any one of a million little things when out comes to wireless.

Try channel 5 or 6. Keep playing with both phone and router settings. Maybe reset router to factory settings and start all new setup with new passkeys. Just bouncing ideas around here. My X10 doesn't like my WiFi, but everyone else's Android works on it just fine  Good thing I have that insane data plan and don't need WiFi...

I'm still leaning towards it being router based issue. Fully reset router, worked for me. I had found a thread somewhere about router settings for gaming and I changed many settings. My X10 still doesn't like my WiFi, but EVERYTHING else connects, even the Wii...
Good luck :|
