Hey there buddy,

In order to get 2.1, you need to download SEUS, search in google and it should be the first link. Then just follow the steps. Then download z4root from the market or super one click root. If you download z4root its just one click and your done. If you use super one click root then just connect via usb and click root. I forgot to mention super one click root is a pc app.

Heres the link for superone click: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

Just download to ur pc, connect ur x10 to the pc via usb. On the phone goto settings>applications>development and check usb debugging. Make sure its ticked. Click root on superone click and your done. However should you end up in a loop untick the usb debugging and then retick it. Might have to do so a few times but ive not had this problem with v1.65.

Hope this helps :)

Z4root doesn't exist in the AM anymore, whether it's just SE devices as SE patched the exploit or it's been removed for all devices?

There's also Bin4ry's flash tool here, this will also root your phone.
Link "how to" in the thread.

It depends on what it is you actually want to do. If you just want to update from 1.6 to 2.1, then download Sony Ericsson Update Service (This is what is meant when people say SEUS). This is a different computer application to Sony Ericsson PC Companion, which should also find you updates, but doesn't always do so - and therefore in my opinion is a waste of an application.

Anyway, once you have SEUS, it should find you 2.1 at the very least. Whether it finds the latest update (.435) is a different story as that is area dependant.

If you ahve only had the phone a few months, then I would recommend just sticking to the SE firmware for now and whilst enjoying the phone, do lots of reading on this site and also on the xda forums. This will give you an idea of what everyone is talking about and when you are more confident, you can decide on rooting and adding a different firmware (ROM) to your phone.

If you are happy to just do the above, then you no need to Root you phone.

Hope that helps.

Upgrade firmware first, then root! An update for ur phone will undo the root status! Wich means you gotta root your phone after every upgrade u do with SEUS!
