Rooting & Overclocking

Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to be asking this but I have an X10i and I've read loads about people overclocking and rooting their phones but don't know what benefits it gives me (apart from speeding up the phone & deleting Moxier mail etc).

M phone runs a big sluggish at times but hopefully that will be resolved when I update to Gingerbread 2.3 and move my apps to my SD card.

Can anybody shed some light on the benefits of rooting/overclocking for a nomal phone user who likes to play around with apps & the internet. I'm not a developer.....but would like to learn how to make my own apps in the future.
