When the phone is on "silent mode"

When I put my phone on silent, it doesnt vibrate unless i go to options and turn on vibrate everytime. Is there a way to make the phone "know" that it is always supposed to vibrate, even thoung its on silent?

on the X10 there is three settings on this subject... first full (ringtone and vibrate) then just vibrate mode and last silent...
there is a widget (icon bar with four things - wifi - bt - gps - sound) if you tap on the sound icon once it will go to vibrate mode, and twice the silent mode,
have you tryed this?

I use the volume buttons... turn the volume down, and the phone is silent, one click up activates the vibrate mode.
