GPS problem

Postby classegw » Mon Jul 26, 2010 2:58 pm

Hi. Has anyone experienced problem getting the gps to work? I am! Out of maybe 20 tries only 1 successfull connection. Any suggestions?

Update:
returned the phone to the seller, had to wait for almost a month, got a new phone wich works perfect! ie, there was a malfuntion with the gps!

Tried it both indoors and outdoors, in a car, walking, sitting...

I think I'll buy a TomTom instead :)

This happened to my X10 mini today. Used the SatNav feature for the 1st time last weekend, thought it was great (better than my proper SatNav)... went to use again today and it just says "searching for gps" but never finds it.

About two hours later, it worked properly again, one thing I did notice though when it wasn't working, it did NOT show the gps symbol at the top of the screen like it should. I'm going to keep my proper SatNav in the car just in case this goes wrong again.

Not much help to you, but at least you know you're not alone.

By the way, my proper SatNav experienced no such problem finding the GPS from the same location as the X10 Mini.

The icon in "top bar" just flashes...must be something wrong with it.
But on the other hand, it must be more expensive to use the gps in the phone instead of a "real" gps so if it's not working I must be saving money ;)

Why? the GPS is built in, cost nothing to use (if you dont enable Agps that get's your position faster trough 3G)

If the GPS isn't working, try a hard reboot of the phone - remove the battery whilst the phone is on, wait a couple of seconds and restart the whole thing. Should work fine after that.

I *think* this is caused by over judicious use of a task killer.

Ive been using gps with 'ndrive' navigation software and also with 'runstar'. There are times when it takes something like 5-10 min. to get a fix. However, once it gets a fix everything works perfectly.
There is a free app on the market 'GPS test' that gives you a lot of information on what the gps is trying to do (signal strength, no. of satellites etc.). It doesn't help get a fix, but at least you know what is going on.

How do you do a hard reboot on X10mini? Can't remove the battery.

Power cycling the phone (turning it off and on) can help, but may require more than one go.

I'm on contract with o2 and haven't used the GPS as it states there might be additional charges...

Is this only for PAYG, Or would it be worth getting in touch with o2?

Not sure why they would say there could be additional charges, unless it's because it uses AGPS, which may send a 3G data packet.
