Swype

Postby JayJ » Sat Sep 18, 2010 10:47 pm

I'm gutted, today my copy of Swype finished!
Tried to Swype a txt and a little box came up saying my trial period was over and I needed to update Swype or something like that?
I Googled Swype and found a site offering Swype for the Milestone that should work on my X10i but it won't swype, I can use it as a normal keyboard as I am typing this post but I cannot swype. Kinda defeats the object really!
Anybody got a link to a working Swype for the X10i, I know it's now out of beta and being used on the Galaxy S but I really miss it! I've tried Shapewriter but prefer Swype.
Any help would be great, thanks!

As far I know, the Swype is still in Beta and I'm using it without any problem.

Have you ever registered for Swype Beta? If yes, then you can download the updated version from their website by entering your username/password.

Hope this helps.

No I tried to register but they weren't excepting anymore ppl for beta testing.
Check their site, lots of talk about OEM and Galaxy S pictures!
I'm so desperate for a working copy of Swype I even emailed them offering to pay for it!

Thanks for the help fella!

Actually I tried to extract out the APK from my one so that I could pass to you, but when I tried to install in another device, it installs flawlessly but when I try to start, it gives me an error saying this was configured to another device !! Looks like a bit of intelegent prorammming

Sorry I couldn't help further and hope they open the beta soon.

Edit: Removed your second posting :)

Try 'Ultra Keyboard', Its on par, if not better than swype, however, its not as accurate sometimes, especially if your a sloppy swyper, but its excellent if you always go over the letters.

I found a copy on XDA forum, I was not the only one whose copy timed out.
It's not totally right, it swypes and fits the X10i's screen but there's no heptic feedback. It'll do for now but if anybody finds a working copy compatible with the X10i and with working heptic feedback please let me know.

I have to say I'm very disappointed with the devs who created Swype, I still haven't received a reply to my email. Even if it was a sorry can't help, an acknowledgment would have been appreciated.

Jayj, have you tried SlideIT? It's very similar to Swype, you can download the demo from the market and give it a shot. I tried Swype on a friend's phone and I liked SlideIT a bit better. Personal preferences apply, of course.

No I haven't tried it fella, I think the problem is the same across the board with these types of apps. Once you get used to one it's hard to switch, I read many posts of ppl who prefer Shapewriter to Swype or Swype to Shapewriter, SlideIT to Shapewriter etc etc.
I think my problem is I tried Swype first and I'm used to the UI and the word choosing etc, I like the way Swype works but them I never really bothered to learn how to use Shapewriter properly. Swype felt more natural whereas Shapewriter felt more contrived, maybe I'll give SlideIT a go! lol

try slide it. I had your same problem and tried slide it after my copy of swype expired. Slide it is VERY similar to swype.
