Cant update despite available update kit

Postby RS70 » Sun Nov 28, 2010 5:35 pm

Hi, i own a black x10i acquired in Orange SK (X10i ORA-SK GENERIC 1236-0130 1238-8956 Orange SK/Sensuous black). I rebranded it to 2.1 Nordic generic firmware in the begining of month, but since update for my phone should be available (according to http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2010/11/18/this-kits-have-the-update-continued/ ) i wanted to rebrand back. I followed this manual http://androidforums.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/211723-switch-nordic-2-1-your-regions-fw-easily.html and after several tries i changed the files according to manual, but when i try to update via PC Companion or Update Service (both freshly reinstalled, deleted registry entries & program data before) it gives me message that There is no software available for your phone.
The Nordic version is a little laggy plus i dont want the nordic junk in my phone, Id rather take the slovak Orange junk :)
Really need help with this one.
Thanks

of course there won't be an update. lol you're already on the latest firmware.
instead of trying to UPDATE, try to REPAIR.
this way, it'll force a reflash of the current firmware with the SI number edited in build.prop

By update I meant repair, but it doesnt work-. After I connect phone in flash mode it gives me the error message. I followed the instructions precisely, but didnt succeed..
It behaves like theres no generic firmware (1238-8956) :(

could you find the guide on xda and follow that one? there might be more stuff that you need to change..
if not, then you would probably have to flash it to 1.6, then flash back up again.

and one more thing. check that it's actually possible for you to update online. in some countries, like mine for example, does not have the firmware available online, and we have to go down to service centres to do it. so if it's not available online, you won't be able to flash it yourself.

Sorry for delay. I followed your instructions (also xda page), but i still get the error. I flashed my phone to world generic, followed the instructions to rebrand it (changing build.prop and cust.prop), but when i try to repair i get the message
One more thing, the guides to rebrand are using default.prop, but in my default.prop there are just several lines, while all the stuff that matters is in build.prop

yeah that's because that guide is probably for 1.6.
default.prop doesn't work for 2.1. have to use build.prop. i'm not sure of the details because i've not tried it. but there are reports of people doing it, so give it a try

Damn, i didnt see that, but anyway, i have tried it with build.prop without any luck... So that i have to find another solution, but i managed to find backup of my 1.6 firmware, so i have a question whether its possible to reinstall my 2.1 with 1.6 firmware?
