Problem adding an extra google accoun t to your phone

Hi.

I'm trying to ad an extra Google mail account to my phone. It says its possible to have several accounts in the phone. But when typing in the information about the account. It says it needs to connect to the Google servers and that it might take up to five minutes.

The problem after a minute or so it says that no connection could be established and I have to try again.

I have made sure that I have 3G. And I have even tried using WI-FI.

I have no issue connecting to internet or check my other mail account etc..

I'm running on 2.1 and its not rooted or in any other way "tampered with"

I dont want ot remove the google account I have on the phone because the only way to do that is to factory reset the phone.

Any clues on this?

I can't help with adding another account as I only have the one but you can remove an account without a factory reset, menu> settings> accounts & sync> click your google account to open and at the bottom "remove account".

When I go into settings and click on than account to remove it it gives me the following answer.

This account is required by some programs. You can only remove it if you restore the factory settings on the phone.
Doing this will also erase all personal data.


Of course at this stage I don't want to do that just to ad a second account on my phone.

Anyone else out there in mobile land that has an advise on this

I added several accounts including a second google mail account to my phone right after the 2.1 update. Not sure if it will work, but try adding second google mail account in default email app. Then set it as primary and try deleting other again and see if you get same message. Good luck.

I had this problem. I did a little research and it seems this is a common problem. I found a workaround though. Open the YouTube app and add the account there. This will add the google account to your phone.
