Keyboard gone mad!

The keyboard on my wife's Xperia X10 Mini has just started producing letters of its own accord! i.e. if you go to type a text message, as soon as you slide out the keyboard it starts 'typing' the letters 'edscx' apparently at random, over and over again, without any of the keys being pressed! Everything works ok if you slide the keyboard shut and use the touch-screeen keyboard, it's just the physical slide-out keyboard that does this.
Has anyone else experienced this?

This would make me think that during the process of the keyboard coming out buttons are being press or the PCB underneath is making a connection which is causing the letters.
I would suggest returning the phone to point of sale or to your service provider for repair.
