There has been quite a bit of press over the last week regarding Gameloft supposedly reducing its investment in Android. Gameloft’s finance director, Alexandre de Rochefort, said: “We have significantly cut our investment in Android platform, just like … many others,” at an investor conference last week. He went on to say that the company is selling “400 times more games on iPhone than on Android.”

However, the company is now back-tracking and released a statement this morning that reiterates its support for Android. The company plans to launch high definition games on the “next generation Android phones like the Motorola Droid and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.”

By ‘next-generation’ I believe the company is referring to the processors powering the likes of the Droid (Arm Cortex A8) and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 (Qualcomm Snapdragon). The Acer Liquid is also one to add to the list, as it is also powered by the Snapdragon chipset.

“The arrival of this new generation of phones will allow the development of High Definition games that make the most of the technological capacity and the speed of execution offered by the new Android phones,” said Gonzague de Vallois, VP of Publishing at Gameloft.
