The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is now available to pre-order at Play.com and it’s not cheap. Play has the ‘Sensuous Black’ version listed for £529.99 and according to the retailer the recommended retail price (RRP) is £549.99.
If this price is correct, Sony Ericsson could have a problem on their hands, especially considering how keenly priced the competition is. For example, the first Android Snapdragon handset, the Acer Liquid, is currently selling for under £330 in the UK. Obviously, the Xperia X10 is better specced, but is that really worth an extra £200?

Whilst doing a straight conversion is often inaccurate, it gives an idea where the handset will be priced in other regions. Basing it on the UK RRP, we work out that the pre-tax cost of the Xperia X10 will be around $760 in the US and €520 in Europe.
It’s not all doom-and-gloom. A bit of welcome news is the fact that we may see this earlier than expected. Play is it listed for 18th January 2010, whereas a February date was rumoured previously. So has the pricing put you off, or will you be buying it regardless? We’d love to hear your thoughts below.
