Sony Ericsson has unveiled two new members to the Xperia X10 Android smartphone family. They include the Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 mini pro. What is the difference you may ask compared to the original? Well as the name suggests it is one of size. The Xperia X10 has a 4.0-inch (480 x 854) WVGA display, whilst the mini series have a 2.55-inch (240 x 320) QVGA display. The Xperia X10 mini pro goes one step further by adding a QWERTY keyboard.

The Xperia X10 mini will launch with six colours (black, pearl white, lime, pink, red and silver), whilst the more sober Xperia X10 mini pro will launch in just red and black colours. Both models will ship with Android 1.6 (Donut), as the original, and will be armed with a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset.

As you would expect, Sony Ericsson will include its Timescape application in the handsets although there’s no mention of Mediascape. The UI seems to have been tweaked slightly, utilizing all four corners of the handset with customizable functionality. They also come with a 5MP camera, rather than 8MP seen in the Xperia X10.

Given the size of the handset, the Xperia X10 mini will not have a removable battery, which may be a deal breaker for some. The X10 mini and X10 mini pro supports HSPA 900/2100 and EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, HSPA 850/1900/2100 and EDGE 850/900/1800/1900. Region availability is vague although SE says it should be available in “selected markets from Q2”.
