How can i turn off the sound for capturing

Postby bask01chn1 » Mon Jan 31, 2011 6:20 pm

Is it possible to silent the sound of the camera without installing apps , just from the settings ? Android 1.6 BTW - it`s making the sound even in silent mode.

Yes... have you even look under the settings in the camera mode? it's there...

the last choice on the list in the settings menu...

Just checked on mine and it's the same
SOUND 1
SOUND 2
SOUND 3
OFF

But also, putting the phone on 'silent' or 'vibrate' mode will turn the shutter sound off.
I have just tested on my phone to double check that I'm not making it up as I go along, works fine!

There is a simple way to shut off the camera, switch your mobile to silent mode. Furthermore, follow these instructions; go to Menu->camera ->camera setting ->shutter sound you will see couple of options over there.

When the camera is open, menu - adv' settings - shutter sound.... should have 1, 2, 3 and OFF.
If your using the X10i and not a mini or pro, there's no reason why the option shouldn't be there.
I have double checked this a few times over on my own X10i and a couple of friends handsets and it's exactly the same.
As well as the silent and/or vibrate mode also disables the shutter sound.

You are using the stock camera app right?

If you don't have a "Off" or silent option, try this.

First you need a file manager like Asto File Manager.
Open the file manger and on your SD Card there should be a folder called media, inside that, one called audio and inside that, one called camera, if none of these exist create them.
Download a silent.ogg from the web and place in the camera folder, now open the camera application and select sound settings and select silent.
Hope it works, somebody please post the result.

Only thing I could think of would be back up everything and put it through a repair on SEUS and see if that fixes it

Hello Everyone

I am new to this forum. I am also facing this issue that there are only three options under shutter sound that is sound1 sound2 and sound3. I guess JayJ solution is fine and should work. But there is a slight modification.
The media directory is not in your sd card. you should move up from your sd card (root) and there you should go in system/media/audio/camera. there are four folders with the names
sound0
sound1
sound2
sound3

every folder has a common file named shutter.ogg except sound0. the file in the folder sound0 named no_sound.ogg. If you can somehow rename that file to shutter.ogg or if you can paster the file sent by JayJ there you will surely find a fourth option to mute the sound. but for this i guess you should have the root access.

I hope this was helpful

Regards
