Can someone verify whether this is true?

It's true. The MW-600 supports AVRCP 1.4, but the Android OS does not. Therefore, NO current Android phone will display titles on the headset. Android (which is open source) is using an open-source Bluetooth stack called BlueZ (http://www.bluez.org/), which only supports AVRCP 1.0. In order to get track titles, you need 1.3 or higher.

I just received my MW-600, and I think it's an amazing little device! Not only does it have an internal FM radio, but it can be paired with up to 3 devices! This means that I can use it with the phone, with my laptop and (soon) with my iPod. With my laptop, I can use it to listen to music or watch movies, or I can use it as a gaming headset while playing online (using Ventrilo - should also work with TeamSpeak and Steam). I'll post a tutorial.

Sony Ericsson MW-600 Tutorial

The headset has 2 modes. I'll call them "Music mode" and "Phone mode". When paired with my laptop, it shows up as two devices: "Bluetooth High Quality Audio" and "Bluetooth Audio" (Music mode and Phone mode, respectively). Music mode supports audio output only (as far as I can tell), while Phone mode supports microphone and audio (the audio is lower quality). You can only use one mode at a time, so you can't get high quality audio while using the mic. :(

To use it as a gaming headset:
1. Set your input (and output if you want) to use "Bluetooth Audio". In XP, you can go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Voice.
2. Set the MW-600 to use the PC for Phone mode by holding the Call button and selecting the PC icon.
3. Turn on Phone mode by pressing the Call button once. The Call timer will start, but you can ignore it.

To use it for music or movies:
1. Set your output to "Bluetooth High Quality Audio". In XP, you can go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio.
2. Set the MW-600 to use the PC for Music mode by holding the Play/Pause button and selecting the PC icon.
3. It should already be in Music mode. If it's in Phone mode, press the Call button once to switch back.
Note: Setting input to "Bluetooth High Quality Audio" doesn't seem to let you use the mic in Music mode.

To use it with your phone:
1. Hold the appropriate button (Call for Phone mode, Play/Pause for Music mode) and select the phone icon.
2. Press the Call button to switch between Music mode and Phone mode.

To use the FM radio:
1. Hold the Play/Pause button and select the radio icon.
2. Use the seek buttons to change frequency. Hold a seek button to scan.

So, if you want to watch movies on your PC but still be able to receive calls, set Music mode to the PC and Phone mode to the phone!

I think it would be compatible, but I'm not sure about the sound quality. If you're using it as a mic, you'd have to put it in Phone mode, and in my experience game sounds don't sound great in that mode (like when I use it for gaming on my laptop). I don't mind it too much though.

i have a sony xperia x10 and an mw600. i like the mw600 but the buttons dont skip tracks or play/pause the music. i have tried it with mediscape and with another music player from the android market. is this because of incompatabilities between the 2 devices or should the buttons work fine?

Hi guys. What the latest with this? I appreciate its not fully compatible, but that only means that at the moment I you see track names, right?

What else? Is there anything else comparable? In based in the UK.

Thanks

Sorry for my apparent lack of good english - I blame my quick typing on the X10, not my English!

I now own a MW600 from Play.com (£35). I know it doesn't give track names etc, but at the end of the day, I know the track I'm listening to as I put the music on my phone in the first place!!

Despite the lack of info, I can skip tracks and adjust the volume. Some people have found the volume fiddly, but its not really. It a 'slider' type adjusting, not a 'button pressing'. Just gently slide your finger along the slider, or keep your finger on either end ('+' or '-').

I'm in the UK, on a generic X10i.

(I've also tried it with my Nokia N95, but still no track names - any ideas?)

I agree with you Sy, I have no problems skipping tracks or adjusting the volume with my MW600.
I have to say though the volume is lower as is the sound quality when using the MW600 compared to my Sony MDR-EX85's and EX83's and that's even when using the out of the box mic and lead with my 83's.

You may already know this Jay, but as well as the volume on the mw600, you also have the separate volume from the phone too?

Usually, controlling one item of a paired combo would change the volume on both items, but not with this combo.

When connected to the mw600 and listening to music, try changing the volume on the phone, then on the unit. I was pleasantly surprised!!

Mmm, I'm pretty sure the volume was up full on my X10 as was my MW600 but I will double check it next time I use it.
Thanks Sy!

Thanks a lot Grospolina! This post is exactly what I was searching for. I could not get my MW600 to answer call while watching videos on the computer...now I can. you da mam :-)

For me it doesn't work.

I have a Z21 Sony Vaio with Intel wireless 6230 + Bluetooth adapter 3.0 and it installs ONLY Bluetooth Audio.. there's no Bluetooth High Quality Audio. I've installed latest drivers. On Win 7 Pro x64

I can say that it works in stereo.. and audio quality is better then phone quality, but it's worst then audio quality I obtain with my cellphone paired with MW600 in music settings.
