Camera Zoom

Digital zoom is feature available in Android 2.1

Still no sign of Zoom after 2.1. Anyone else noticed this, is it hidden or just missing.

is that a feature list for the x10 or the mini? i've looked thru the specs on SE web, no where mentioned camera zoom

It would seem not, little disappointing in my opinion.
Sure it wouldn't be hard to add

I would've liked the volume buttons to have been used for zoom. No zoom at all is pretty poor.

Camera is generally better in 2.1 but still has a long way to go.

I've tried a couple of the other camera apps but non of them work with the flash.

I agree 100%. Is there nothing SE can do to sort this out? judging by how long it takes them to fix things i think we may be in for a long wait.

do the other camera apps allow zooming? like some bypass or something? no? or you could just take a picture.. upload it to your computer, use photoshop and increase image size. it's better and works the same way as digital zoom :p

you guys know it's digital zoom right? aka low quality bullshit. optical zoom is using optics (the lens and whatever magic) to enlarge, so you preserve most of the picture.

Yeah I know It's only digital zoom. Still to me a basic function missing no matter how you look at it.

did you read the specifications when you bought it? did it say zoom capability? if it didn't, why didn't you ask them then, instead of asking us now? there's nothing we can do about it, and you know that.

you shouldn't have bought the mini when you felt it was a basic, essential functionality. you should have gotten an x10 instead.

either you sell it, and get another phone, or live with it, and photoshop. there's nothing we can do. i'm sorry.

Shows that people think it is a basic function missing if you can download camera apps which add this feature in.

All i was originally asking was if it was possiable and how to do it. Then i was told it was coming with 2.1 so again i was asking how. Simple.

i'm puzzled anyway. why would you want digital zoom? it just uses algorithms to blow up the picture. why not take a zoomed out shot then use photoshop to increase image size? it's better in pixel preservation, or should i say smarter.

if you wanna show it to someone, why not take the pic, then zoom in from there? if you're sick of mediascape, there are alternatives out there. furthermore, if you're on 2.1, the gallery is lightweight and fast. AND looks smooth

I dunno how many of my.post you've read but these
are questions asked by my gf. It's easier for me to ask helpful people on her then try to tell her that what she wants is wrong.

ah okay. well.. tell her she gotta use photoshop if none of the other apps allow digital zooming
things might change when custom roms are loaded.. but i'm not sure ... hopefully the x10 mini can work the same way the x10 does.

There is a zoom,

Hold phone in both hands and move it further towards what your taking a picture of, also you could keep the phone still but move the target closer to it you get zoom too.

As owner of Cybershot K790, I can say X10 camera sucks. The 3.2MP camera in my old K790 was way better than the 8MP in my X10. S.E. really stepped backwards with cameras they put in phones. No xenon flash anymore is an Epic Fail.
